Best Live Performance You Have Ever Seen!? - Progressive Rock Music Forum

I don’t seem to have posted on this one, so here goes. Pretty difficult as so many gigs over the years, and very few disappointed, but here is a stab at a couple.

1. Six Of The Best. The Gabriel reunion with Genesis at Milton Keynes. 39 years ago now. It absolutely threw it down all day. We were frozen, but there was a magic to that gig, and it is a shame that they never committed it to video

2. Tansads 2010 reunion, The Citadel, St Helens. Not remotely prog, but one of my favourite bands with a unique energy. We saw the successor band, Merry Hell, in South Wales in August this year and had a long chat with them after

3. Pink Floyd, The Wall at Earls Court. Stunning. Just stunning and far more intimate than the recent Waters tours seen on DVD, which seem to be so completely against the spirit of just why he wrote the thing in the first place

4. Marillion. Still my favourite band, and I have seen every tour since 198…dot. The standout one for me was Wolverhampton Civic Hall on the Radiation tour. There was an energy that night which is almost impossible to describe

5. King Crimson, St David’s Hall on the last UK tour. I finally got to see them, and took my wife and son. The rendition of Islands remains the most incredible live experience of my life. Simply staggering

I see this message now ... I saw Bruce too on that tour, it was one of my first concerts (1988, I was 17) In fact, in the finale, when the artists sang together, everyone was amazed by Springsteen's overwhelming strength .

I've seen Bruce about twenty times since then, and I can't say which was the best, but over time the pleasure has increased and I've never felt with other artists such a sense of involvement as with Springsteen.

Among the concerts I have seen, not so many, who came close to giving me that pleasure was Nick Cave, in 2001, I think the No More Shall We Part tour. Great energy.

Then there are Van der Graaf from the Present tour, great concert.

This I would say is my podium.

Right after that I would put Patti Smith, 20 years ago, and Roger Waters, 5 years ago, fantastic concerts that amazed me.

Other bands that surprised me were Sigur Ros 4 years ago and Grant Lee Buffalo (who I liked more than REM, which they supported) more than 20 years ago.

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

Additional to my original post in this thread, I would say the first KC gig I went to a few years back, and the recent Steve Hackett show I saw. Utterly fantastic, both.

Honourable mentions go to The Fields of the Nephilim back in 1990, and Kiss back in 2010 (for pure enjoyableness)

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I saw kiss on their farewell tour a couple weeks ago and it was pretty cool

Yes, that's why I made a point of mentioning that I wasn't actually in Tokyo. I watched the George Duke concert on YouTube, along with every other concert I've seen over the last eleven years. I haven't attended a live concert since 1995/1996. Embarrassed
