SB is in the lead, hot damn. |
Yes indeed As someone else said, it's quite fun waiting until near the end. As Phil Collins once said - "anticipation is half the fun" I'm still pissed off the The Flower Kings were beaten

These two bands could hardly be more opposite. I can see why it would be difficult to like both, or to love one and hate the other. |
I like both a lot (which is why I've not voted yet). The Mars Volta has five 4-star albums, while Spock's Beard has one 5-star album and a string of 3s and 4s (have not heard X yet). However, SB has good live material, whereas TMV has Scab Dates.
Basically a tie for me.

There is always the few that fall into the overlap of the Venn diagram.
btw, what Mars Volta album would you recommend? I have heard Bedlam and thought it was a bit awful really.
| Bedlam is easily their hardest to appreciate. I would have given it 2 stars if I quit listening to it- but it gradually grew on me. Even now I have to muster my fortitude to listen to it, but I'm always glad when I do.
Here's my recommendations:
De-Loused in the Comatorium is the band's most consistent album.
Amputecture contains their masterpiece, "Tetragrammaton," and some other very strong material, but also some of their weakest.
Frances the Mute contains another masterpiece, "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus" and other excellent work, but be warmed that it contains a fair bit of avant-garde tendencies and sonic experimentation.
The Bedlam in the Goliath is their most intense offering. Not recommended to newcomers.
Octahedron is the opposite of the previous album- mostly calm, decaffeinated music, but about as consistent as the debut.
If I were forced to choose a favorite, it would be Frances the Mute I suppose. For you, I would recommend that one or Octahedron.

^ Cheers. I'm pretty sure I've heard the first two as my friend has them. I don't remember them that well though.

It's very close for me too,in fact i'm happy with which ever band goes through. Based on studio albums i've given each band one 5 star rating but one 4 star to Mars Volta and three 4 stars to the Beard ,so i voted for the Beard earlier on.I'm not into either band's later albums. Greg mentioned "Snow" earlier and for me it's average at best,in fact i think i gave that cd away to someone.

Or how about a great Canadian breafast: back bacon, sausages slathered in maple syrup, beaver tails, moose droppings, bear buns, donuts and coffee followed by a six pack of beer?

It's funny how Spock's is the big underdog of this tournament for some reason. The Flower Kings should have advanced though.

The fact that Spock's is advancing further than TFK is infuriating. The fact that Phideaux beat TFK is infuriating. The fact that TMV will lose this is infuriating. Well, at least until I get over it and realize that is just a poll on the internet.
