This is such a sad, sad day for the city of Philadelphia.  Baseball in this town will never be the same.  I admit to having some tears in my eyes this evening, and I wasn't even born here, but this is my adopted town, as it were.

Sad news on both. Calas really wasn't that old either.....72. Sad about Fidrych his career didn't match his rookie season, much like David Clyde and Denny McLain wasn't much of a pitcher after his 31 win season.

The Buccos are 2 games above .500.

Imagine that.

The Pirates' pitching staff has an ERA over a run better than their FIP.

Translation: they're coming back down to Earth real soon.

Kallas is on of those old time guys that baseball won't ever be able to replace.  I thank my fortune everyday that Vin Scully is still calling Dodger games but he is 80 and won't be there forever. These guys weren't players but really called the games for a fan, understanding what that meant.  This need to fill up the booth with ex athletes and managers loses that perspective.

A little off topic sorry:

Try watching the NFL draft! They have more  pundits and prognosticators, ex coaches, and players and you know what? My opinion is just about as accurate as theirs. No one knows who is going to work out as pro if  that player has never stepped foot onto an NFL practice field yet.. These guys just ate up the Raiders because the Raiders didn't pick the players they thought were good for them.  One of the scouting reports for the safety they picked said "He hits like a linebacker and is a marvelous blend of speed and size" and yet later "He isn't thought to be projected to the NFL."  HMM so if the first part is true how the can the second be true as well?  If they had their way Jerry Rice and Matt Brady would never had stepped foot on the field.
This whole business has gotten way out of hand.  When did watching the draft become a television event? LOL

Somewhere between reality TV and Texas Hold-em. Who would have thought that watching people play poker would be good TV?

The Buccos!!!!

Their best start since 1992 and a winning April for the first time in many.

Cubs have the talent to turn it around.

Despite their awesome lineup, the O's pitching staff contains exactly one solid major-league starter in Jeremy Guthrie and that ain't enough to compete in the AL East.

The Nats are just awful.  AWFUL.  Their only freakin' good player is Elijah Dukes and they keep benching him because he does horrible things like arrive at the park only 3 hours and 55 minutes before the game because he was signing autographs for little leaguers.  They actually had three almost league-average starting pitchers coming into the season, but they cut Shawn Hill (AFTER he won arbitration, no less) because they hate winning or something.

The epitomy of their season this year:

That's right, they actually took the field in jerseys that have no "o".  No wonder they're last in the Natinal League!

Well after last year's 100+ loss season, the mighty Mariners are looking a bit better.  I doubt if it will last, but I may even go to a game this year if they stay reasonably competitive.

Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

Whodathunkit? My Reds are actually still one game above .500 after tonight's win. Granted that may not continue unless they're pitching and hitting starts becoming more consistent. It seems like when they're pitching it fine, they're hitting begins to struggle and vice versa. Here's to hoping that changes in a hurry.

The Buccos still can't win at Miller Park. 1-0 today. Go figure.

Their starting pitching is pretty decent, but the real awesomeness of that rotation is that their last names spell out HAVOC (Harang, Arroyo, Volquez, Owens, Cueto).

Yeah, we took 3 out of 4 from Toronto. I thought all of the hype surrounding Greinke and his pending SI cover would've screwed with his head last night. Still looks good, though.

The Cards put up a 5 spot on the Nats in the top of the ninth. The Nats are brutal this year.

The Tigers took 2 out of 3 from Cleveland this weekend in fairly exciting fashion.  Sitting at the game I kept seeing the "R" next to the Nats and Cardinals game and couldn't help but think of it being Raff's 1st baseball game.  I usually try to bring my dad to a game every year, and the last 2 years it seems that every time we have tried we have ended up having to at least sit through a rain delay.  I know that the one game ended up cancelled and the other game was against the Yankees and they ended up delaying the first pitch until after 11:00 PM.  We had already left by then.
