Very Sad News indeedCry
He may not be prog but none of us can deny that he had a huge influence on popular music. It is this that we should be remembering him for at this time... and let's not forget no one is perfect!

It's weird coz last night before I went to bed, I randomly listened to Man in The Mirror and Human Nature, not knowing he'd already passed away. May he rest in peace.

It's nice that the court of your f**king opinion has the power to make someone have no value as a human being.
Do you have children?
Although I think people get hysterical about pedophiles because they don't understand how they operate (I read recently that a school in England banned anyone from photographing soccer games but I can't find a link), the point is not the natural reactions one has towards pedophiles. The point is that he was acquitted, yet despite the law deciding that he was innocent (twice!), since it his opinion that he did it, he feels free to disregard the evidence and declare him a worthless parisite. This isn't OJ, folks.

But even if he were guilty, being a pedophile does not invalidate him as a human being and I take offense at the notion that it does. They are criminals, yes, but their crime is no different from any other. In fact, we should pity them more, as the vast majority of the time they were the victims of abuse themselves.
Argh!
Slight correction: he settled out of court in 1993 (twice!).  And why isn't this OJ? He was found innocent in the same court system by a similar group of "twelve really stupid people who are easily swayed by rich, fat-cat, slimy lawyers, who'll do anything but tell the truth" (its from Wrongfully Accused).  OJ was great in the Naked Gun series by the way so I fully expect when he dies he'll get a thread mourning his loss.  And King By-Tor: I feel fine today knowing that if I died tomorrow that you'd repect my passing not that I'd care, I'd be dead after all and either in a far better place, far worse place, or just gone.

will step aside now with respect for Tony's wishes of keeping in civil (I submitted the above post before reading his post)
Argh!

Heard about this news earlier....

Complete surprise.
I mean the guy was only 50, not overweight, not into drugs, (that we know of at least).

Regardless off his...oddities and various personal questions I feel for the guy.
He had no childhood, I mean it's no surprise he was so weird.
Despite being one of the best selling artists of all time, he had almost no money left.

Just sad. Very sad...

it's hard to fathom, you'd think with the best selling album ever - millions more copies sold than anything by any other artist - that he'd always have plenty of regular money coming in, strange

Indeed.

Also let's not forget this is the third huge name in a very short span.
Ed McMahon, Farrah, and now Michael.

....And thank you Henry....I guess that shed's some light on it

I wasn't endorsing what MoM said nor am I dismissing it Harry, and wasn't trying to pick on you. It's just that being a father my opinions on child molestation or pedophilia might be different than yours.

Cry

yes, he wasn't perfect. Not even close. But you don't know what made him into what he was, if he even was it. He was acquited after all.

It's so easy to judge... so easy...

He was a pop legend and I can gladly say I enjoy many of his songs... RIP Jackson...

It's pretty sad waking up in a world where there is no Micheal Jackson, Micheal was a music genius and he will be missed.

I hope that now he is truly at peace at last.

Manufactured as a child star at the age of 7 & in the public spotlight ever since; sold tens of millions of albums worldwide & produced some of the most memorable videos ever seen - in his prime, he worked with some of the biggest names in music and was a mesmeric live performer, but sadly in his later years became a tragic, withdrawn parody of stardom.

He was addicted to painkillers apparently and other medications I gather.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson.

By wanting to please other people you never seemed pleased with yourself.

Such a shame

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

First off, it's a sad day, the man was great, like his music or not (and for the record; I don't particularly).

As for the paedophile discussion: You must be out of your minds! Nothing was ever proven, in spite of all cash-motivated efforts to the contrary. To my knowledge no stone was left unturned, and all without result. That's good enough for me. I just see a man who was continuously and mercilessly hunted from multiple sides.

The lynch mob mentality is sickening!

Rest in peace, MJ!

I personally think he's guilty as hell, but that's neither here nor there. It's going to be weird that a staple of American culture for the past 3 decades is now dead.

That being said, I never really cared for his stuff. (Even before I was into prog, so I don't get bashed by the "U r a prog bigot" hate train)
