^I think THAT would have been the best prog band ever.

Clap   I LOVE Greg Lake's voice.

Here's my pick for a metal band:

Co-Lead Guitar - Jeff Beck
Co-Lead Guitar - Brian May
Rhythm Guitar - Robert Fripp

David Gilmour - guitars\vocal
Keith Emerson - keys
Mike Porcaro - bass
Simon Phillips - drums
Ian Anderson - flute
(probably the best line up but it would never sound right)

Sometime in the early to mid-seventies, I give you the powertrio: The Three Dictators

Christian Vander (Percussion, allsorts)
Robert Fripp (Guitars, allsorts)
Captain Beefheart (Vocals, allsorts)

Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me

You know what my dream band already exist: Riverside!
They are exactly what I have been searching for a Pink Floyd for prog-metal heads
Pink Floyd if they went with a more metallic edge to their sound!

Lead Vocals - Peter Gabriel
Lead Guitar: Backing/lead Vocals - David Gilmour
2nd Guitar - Alex Lifeson
Bass - Geddy Lee
Keyboards/Synths/Mellotron - Rick Wakeman
Drums/Percussion: Neil Peart

Name of the band would be "Rubycon Sunrise"

In my ideal setting they would beable to work together to make incredible music.. Obviously all this was impossible. So its just my dream.

I decided to go with Geddy, because the more I think about it. Roger Waters would not be willing to share power with the rest of the band. They all have egos to an extent, but none as great as Roger.

Neil Peart, and Peter Gabriel would do the bulk of the lyric writing

David, Rick, Alex, and Geddy would focus on the music.

My only other worry is that Im not sure how David would take Peters onstage antics, the costumes etc.
Hes a pretty big no-nonsense guy, so he might not deal with that well.

How about this line-up:
Christian Vander (drums and vocals)
Roman Bunka (sadly very little known excellent guitar player) - guitar and oud
Barbara Dennerlein - organ

No bass needed; Barbara Dennerlein would provide the bass with the foot pedals of her organ (her technique with the bass pedals is unsurpassed). I can imagine them playing some excellent fusion trio work (Vander plays traditional jazz when he is not playing with Magma, by the way; we have an album of his jazz trio).

BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue.

Alright, I might as well take a shot (though basically no one reads these, but it's a nice mental exercise)

Percussion: Bill Bruford
Flute/Arranging: Ian Anderson
Guitar: John Mclaughlin
Keys: Rick Wakeman
Bass Guitar: Tony Levin
Lead Vocals: Richard Sinclair
Production: Brian Eno

And to make things interesting, an explanation for why this group:

First of all, I want a thorough mix of jazz and classical influences. This is why I have combined some jazzier types (such as Bruford and Mclaughlin) with some more classically-influenced musicians (Wakeman and Anderson). For a bassist I was thinking we need someone very solid without too many flourishes - so I picked Tony Levin, who can distinguish himself with the Chapman Stick. I picked Sinclair as the lead vocalist because, in my opinion, he has one of the most accessible voices in progressive music. And to keep all these ambitious musicians in line, I picked Eno as a producer - he'll keep things nice and sweet, maybe add in some background ambience on certain tracks.

And for a name, they are to be called: Yethro Crimson Orchestravan.

Their first album will be called: In the Mounting Flame of a Passion Pink Edge.
Go and listen to my music.

Though this could never work - Wakeman would walk out as soon as he saw Omar - here's my dream team:

John Wetton - Vocals/Bass? (King Crimson)
Robert Fripp - Guitar/Mellotron (King Crimson)
Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez - Guitar/Writing/Production (The Mars Volta)
Rick Wakeman - Keyboards (Yes)
Chris Squire - Bass/Vocals? (Yes)
Jon Theodore - Drums (The Mars Volta)
Robbie Steinhardt - Violin/Cello (Kansas)

What they would sound like... Larks' Tongues on drugs. Crazy, punk-influenced drugs, with keyboards and violins going everywhere. It would be awesome.

I tihnk this would be interesting

Derek Sharinian
John Myung
Danny Carey

I tihnk it with Dereks awesome writing, and the simplisity of a trio would give Myung a lot of room to really play to his ability, unlike he does in DT. and Carey's just awesome, and will really lock it in there, and not take away from the other two.
I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.
