You are quite right. I had forgotten he had said that.
Obviously we both watch QI then. Is there any point in me saying I didn't deliberately copy him? I won't go on about orange originally being called norange then.....

Wasn't being snarky - just spotted the same phrasing and thought it was funny - I was surprised they didn't do a "what rhymes with Orange?" routine given that Fry is a word-junkie.

Oh I think you were being just a bit snarky. They did the "what rhymes with orange" a few series ago. So I suppose no need to do it again. BTW aren't the BBC utter cowards not showing the QI with Jeremy Clarkson in last week?

Didn't know anything about it - Clarkson says something right-wing and controversial in an attempt to be funny - quelle surprise - if he wasn't amusing he'd be very sad - much like Boris Johnson but with more influence on neckless wonders. The BBC should keep him away from anything unscripted or live because he's an idiot, and they're idiots for giving him the airtime to be a dick. [erm, what I'm saying is that saying people should be executed in front of their families because they dared to go on strike is wrong not matter how funny people think you are]

He didn't. Well he did, but he was giving a BBC "balanced" view because he previously said he was all for the strike because it was easier to drive around London.
I don't believe it was wrong to say and as it happens the whole studio or a good deal of them burst into laughter. Not the presenters of course who didn't know what to say.

Dunno, didn't see the One Show either, only what was reported on the interweb - somehow I don't see that as being balanced - the first comment (empty streets) was flippant, the second (gilt-edge pensions) was ill-informed and about 30 years out of date and the last (kill'em all) was inexcusably crass. When flippancy is balanced by crassness it's time to reappraise what balance means on an allegedly topical light magazine programme for C-list celebs to peddle their latest publicity stunt.

No need to reappraise what balance means. He wasn't speaking officially for the BBC. It was his own humourus version of balance obviously. I see you and I don't see eye to eye on this and respectfully suggest we end this now.

Another word learned today:
Snarky Snide and sarkastic; usually out of irritation; often humourously.
I guess it’s ok as long as it’s not a boojum.

Interesting...there are many avowedly serious discussion threads on PA that have yielded less substantial debate than this one? (Note to self - start a thread called Does My Bum Look Big in this Forum or What? and see what happens)

......I don't mind to much though.
