First album, although I love also that really much! Anyway I think they went really much forward in "Time and a Word", it rises almost into level of "the Yes Album" for me.

The first two records are a bit worse, IMO, but all of them are great.
Come on, guys, The Yes Album rules! |

Yes never had a wek album until the 80s (or 90s, depending on taste).

I can't really vote as I haven't listened to the first two albums in their entirety (I do like the song Time and a Word though). Of the ones I have listened to, it would have to be Relayer. Apart from the "Soon" section, which is beautiful, I find the rest of the album cacophonous.

Wow, I agree the production of The Yes Album is rather flat and lifeless, but I think Yesshows is an even worse recording. Another album from virtually the same time which I thought was spoiled by a flat lifeless production was ''Nursery Chryme'

Production...? Who cares if the 'production' is flat....Yours Is No Disgrace , Trooper, and Perpetual Change are effing brilliant tunes....'nuff said.

Debut, but it's a really good album. All of these early records are great, especially Close to the Edge.

What is it with The Yes Album? The production or something? It's as good as anything the band have ever come up with in my opinion.

I think "Tormato" was the only relatively weak album from the classic 1970's years of Yes, but it was still a lot better than what came later in the form of "Big Generator".

I think it's because people tend to associate Yes with Fragile and onward. The actual songs themselves on The Yes Album are fine, but I can see why they'd leave some wanting more.

Have to go with the debut. They were just finding their way and hadn't yet developed in to what they would ultimately become.

Well, if I had to make a guess, it might just be that it's the only classic Yes album without a 10+ minute song (three of them are close, though). If I had to make an even better guess: TYA lacks Wakeman. Structurally speaking, TYA and Fragile aren't that dissimilar. I |

The first two just don't compare. At all. Apples and oranges.
Time And A Word would be my least favorite but it's still pretty decent.

Never thought I would hear folks beating on The Yes Album. my top 3 Yes albums are Fragile, The Yes Album and CTTE. In that order.
For this poll Yes gets the vote |

Probably Time and a Word although the separation between 1 and 2 is thin. The Yes Album is great, 4 classic songs and not much filler... even though I prefer excitement of live versions. If only live setting had the studio quality! Anyways, it's very close to prime Yes in terms of ideas, but the proper "sound" only revealed itself on Fragile.

A toss up between the first two - voted for the eponymous debut. 'The Yes Album' is where they started to get into their creative stride for me.
