I general hook the album produced between 1967 and 1980 and those of the profitable artists in that make sentences successive to 1980. For this reason I voted: "I love all of them". Nevertheless listening willingly also the Prog Metal in the version of Queensryche, Dream Theatre, Vanden Plas, etc... The Post Rock not listened willingly, but do not so I am closed from not to recognize that this is a very important genre (above all in future key).

I voted for electronic, since nothing I've listened to has really managed to touch me. But I admit I haven't listened to much except some Tangerine and Schulze albums and the well known Jarre/Vangelis, which have pretty little in common with prog in my opinion.
I'm still trying to get into Canterbury scene and kraut rock... It's not working yet, but I suspect I'll end up liking these as well.
As for the prog metal thing, some people's opinions are tragically laughable. I've yet to hear a negative but competent commentary on progressive metal from someone who has actually LISTENED to this music. And I don't mean people who listen to three DT songs, some Tool and one or two Opeth tracks and suddenly become connoisseurs. Please, stop this nonsense - you haven't listened properly, and you don't have the necessary criteria to judge this type of music (understanding the context in which it appeared and the way it evolved over the years etc.). Of course, if you're a fan of, say, Gentle Giant, nobody will force you to listen to Psychotic Waltz and like them just as much, but don't judge what you don't know.

I voted for neo-prog as usual, but here's a question: which bands are represented by your "New Symphonic" category? It sounds suspiciously like neo-prog with a vaguer name.

I love Prog Metal it is what introduced me to progressive rock and I haven't heard any satanic references in it.
I voted electronic, I don't really hate it but it is probably my least favorite. |

i think if you stopped the average joe or sue in the street and asked if heavy metal was "satanist" they would probably say "yes", as many remember ozzy and the sabs' tongue-in-cheek references to the black arts in the early 70's, and some NWOBHM acts such as "Angelwitch" in the 80's, and also King Diamond. but i have never heard any prog metal band refer the black arts, but in the conciousness of the masses any metal, prog or otherwise, could possibly linked in their minds with satanism, but not to enlightened prog metal fans! |

I was about to vote for Italian Prog, that'll be my second choice; but I had to be honest; Prog Metal really gets on my nerves...

I noticed you were playing with a bunch of different avatars as of late. If I may, let me say as a fellow SW geek that it's good to see Anakin back as it was the best one; absolutely awesome picture. Edited by NaturalScience - May 11 2006 at 11:34 |

As far as this thread, I don't know that I've come across a genre that
I can say that I don't like, but there are plenty that I just haven't
explored yet.

Man... talking about opposites... my best and least favourites are exactly the opposites... I'm very much into electronic stuff, prog or not prog, and Metal, prog or not prog, is what I try not to hear, even if that means using earplugs... |

Spock's Beard, Echolyn, Anglagard... to name a few. EDIT: The Flower Kings also to name another big one. As for me, I haven't been able to understand Krautrock yet. Edited by FragileDT - May 11 2006 at 12:48 |

for me the Zeuhl subgenre is what I least like. Although there are some other subgenre's that I hardly ever listen to, there's most of the time at least some stuff included that I can listen to, whether all the Zeuhl music I've listened to up to know was simply horrible to these ears
Okay, gotta go and clean up my knife, hell to sacrifices tend to be bloody..

Surprise, surprise!!! Neo-prog. I have yet to hear a neo-prog group
that I like, I'm afraid. I'm not a big fan of prog-metal either, but
I've lately found some interesting and innovative groups from that
sub-genre. Haven't heard much Zeuhl or Indo-prog.

Not counting the stuff I have no or next to no experience with (0 Indo-prog, 1 Krautrock, 1 Post-rock), probably Neo-prog.
