^^ I definitely have been an overprotective father, but I wouldn't be as concerned with Rush as many others. And of course it's important that you have professional and decent security guards. Anyway, times have got better generally, and in many ways more formal in my experience, and often more likely to press charges and detain methinks. There is lot more "security" generally as we now have greater fears of terrorism, bombthreats, shoot-ups....

Didn't you ever see the Rush biography film called Beyond the Lighted Stage? in it there was a story about how Rush were staying in a hotel room and a woman's bowling league were down the hall with their door open. They were all in night gowns but Rush stayed in their room playing Dungeons and Dragons or something.  So yeah probably not much to worry about with Rush. ;) Kiss or Ted Nugent on the other hand..... I could also mention Motely Crue or Van Halen but I don't think either of them ever toured with Rush.

No, heard of it. I've heard about that incident, I think. I remember hearing about them just reading their books instead of living the rock & roll lifestyle.

I remember hearing about them just reading their books instead of living the rock & roll lifestyle. Neil was notoriously a huge book worm. Next was probably Geddy and then Alex. I don't really know how much Geddy and Alex read though. However, I don't really think they read much while in hotel rooms. I think they played games and did little skits and stuff and overall just joked around a lot. At least that was the impression I got from the All The World's A Stage dvd.

Geddy Lee is a huge baseball fan ( Alex is too, although to a lesser degree). Lee stated when he was young and before the Toronto Blue Jays existed he used to follow the Detroit Tigers. When Rush came into existence and when on tour, Geddy stated he would watch the Chicago Cubs on WGN since they had their home games during the day before heading to the venue for sound checks. If the tour schedule allowed, Lee and Lifeson often would attend baseball and hockey games.

Of course, Lee has an impressive baseball memorabilia collection (as well as bass collection). He did give the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City 200 baseballs signed by notable black baseball players. A few years ago at an auction a part of his collection went for $6.9 million dollars.

But, yeah, in general Rush had a pretty boring Rock n Roll lifestyle on the road. Reading, playing video games and watching and attending sporting events seemed to be the norm.

Yeah, Alex is an avid golfer. He became a good friend with PGA tour golfer Rocco Mediate, a 6x winner on the PGA tour. Mediate famously lost to Tiger Woods in a playoff at the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. Mediate and Lifeson became friends in 1992 when Mediate was preparing for the 1992 PGA Championship being played at Bellerive Country Club. Mediate is a big Rush fan and knew Rush was playing in St. Louis. So Mediate sent an invite to the guys to play a round of golf and Lifeson accepted. Mediate has spent a lot of time with Lifeson helping him with his game. Starting in the 90s, Lifeson was known to carry his clubs when on tour and throw in a few rounds here and there.

Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher Randy Johnson, a huge Rush fan, became good friends with the band. Johnson, who also a gifted photographer, documented a number of Rush concerts with his photography.

I'm sure in the first years of touring, being young men they had their moments, but nothing more than probably what is found on a typical college campus.

Alex has been married since 1975 and Geddy since 1976. Peart had been with his common law wife, Jacqueline Taylor, for 23 years before her unfortunate death in 1998. Peart married in 2000, Carrie Nuthall and remained so until his death. Much like the band themselves, outside the tragic deaths of Peart's first wife and daughter, not much drama to be found in their private lives.
