Indeed, I had to go on the Terraria wiki just to find out how to build a house. LOL

Yeah, Terraria pretty much drops you in there alone. The guide is helpful if you spend 400 years talking to him. Easier to just read the Wiki. Still, that game has become my bane. I'm still hunting up junk despite having run out of places to put it. LOL

Just beat Mom's Heart with Cain, my tears were spectral and coming out at approximately the rate of fire of a machine gun, with maxed out damage.  I was pleased with the results.

Hmm, the game is available on Steam for $2.50 right now. Should I bite?

For $2.50, it can't hurt...not sure if you'll enjoy it or not, but it's a fun enough game in my opinion.

I think it's pretty fun, although a big reason I played it for so long was skinner box bullsh*t. You can play the first two levels here. The full game is over 300 mb, so it's a pretty giant flash game. Which actually can cause some performance problems later on when there are more enemies, but it started as a quick project, and by the time they realized how big it was getting it was too late to turn back and write it in something sensible.

I don't care much for spectral tears, they're not that useful. I mean, I'll take them, but if I found them in the item room on the first level I would probably restart the game, and I wouldn't pay for them unless I had an enormous amount of money. The biggest mistake I ever made was on a good playthrough buying Brimstone from the devil, which ended up leading to my pointless death to Mom because without knockback you can't keep the enemies away. Worst upgrade ever. My run where I finally killed Mom's Heart was when I found Mom's Bottle of Pills as my first item with Cain. I wish I could have tried Sheol with that, but oh well.

What does the trashcan do in the Terraria GUI? I put things there to try to get rid of my 500 blocks of dirt without automatically picking them up again, but nothing happens. :/

Hmm, I've grown to like Brimstone as one of my favorites.  If you combine it with lots of speed upgrades, keeping enemies knocked back doesn't matter all that much, really...plus, the fact that it knocks most of them out in one shot doesn't hurt much either.  I've beaten Mom's Heart at least once or twice with a Brimstoned Cain now.

Lol, died on the second level. Re-tried, died on second level again. Not sure what wire through head does. Also, Kamikaze is kinda terrible. Also, really easy to accidentally use bombs.

As for Terraria, the trash can deletes stuff. Here's how it works. Put something in it, nothing happens. You can always take that item out. However, put a second item on top of it and the first item disappears forever. Additionally, when you quit, anything in your trash can is erased. Thus, as long as you're not trying to throw other stuff on top of it, you can actually use it as a (somewhat high-risk) extra inventory slot.

Twice? Goddamnit I suck. I didn't think the speed upgrades affected the brimstone charge time. The coathanger increases your firing speed (as you are crying more from the pain), and yeah, some of the upgrades are actually not upgrades at all. That is part of the random draw. I didn't have too many problems with the e bomb but I can see your point.Ah, thanks for explaining that. Now if only they had put the same care into preventing you from accidentally crafting things. Or, even better, let you melt things back down like you should be able to...I just wasted four silver bars on a chandelier, and I don't even have full iron armor yet so it is sad.

Just beat the heart again, died in Belial.  That's 3 'full game" playthroughs done now.  Not sure what they consider the Belial level if it's not part of the full game...

Also, didn't notice until the playthrough before this one (or was it two ago?) that Matthias Bossi provides the narration for the game.  Neat little tidbit of info to tie it in with prog. Wink

Yeah, stuff can be hard to come by early on, but later on, you'll be swimming in the stuff. I deliberately ignore silver; I have 300 silver bars sitting around that I don't have a use for. Still use gold, iron, and copper in things, but no need for silver at all. I use a lot of gold ore in making gold bricks these days; still have about 100 gold bars sitting around that I do not need (plus anything duplicated in my server world, which is probably another 150 gold bars). If you decide you need something let me know.

Thanks, but I'd rather find it myself. I don't need it to survive, it's just annoying. The vanity stuff like a gold house doesn't really appeal to me so I probably will just stop bothering to mine once I get to that point. ;-)

Goddamnit Jon, do you keep being successful with Cain? Now you're making me want to reinstall it. Maybe I just need to stop wasting so much time in Arcades...

Not gold house, gold castle that stretches further than the eye can see. LOL

Gold castle?  That's just silly.

(I basically dismantled the dungeon on 3 different worlds to build my house)

Hah. I still use gray brick background because I don't like how gold brick wall looks (it's oddly greenish). Maybe I should use silver brick walls instead. Might give me a use for the tons and tons of silver ore I regularly ignore. Got lots and lots of gray bricks sitting around, though. Like, 1500 gray bricks.

I need to stop and spend some time designing a proper plan for my castle. I would use dungeon bricks for walls (to deal with the stupid clowns and all), but I don't like how they look. Green bricks are kinda sickly-yellowish, blue bricks are purple, and pink bricks are... well, pink. I may just build a cobalt ore wall 4 spaces away from my houstle to prevent clowns from spawning inside (too small of an area to spawn in, and far enough that a bomb placed just outside won't damage bricks). Of course, the world where I'm building the castle is currently still pre-hardmode, so there isn't any worry about that just yet. Can always just connect to that hardmode world and collect materials there. That world is getting pretty corrupted, though. Corruption has almost reached the servants' den.

I finally killed Satan with Cain, although it was really close even though I somehow found FOUR DOLLARS on that playthrough. Thanks slot machines for giving me money that I can't buy anything with because there are no stores anymore! I had to mash my arrow keys too much because I found chocolate milk early on, which really didn't give me much of a benefit and cost me a fair number of hearts because my dodging was poor while I had to concentrate on hitting the arrow keys as fast as I could, but I think the Pinking Shears are seriously the best item in the game, I would not have completed it without them.

Also I have spent a lot of time mining in Terraria.

I found in terraria that literally within minutes of finally acquiring certain ores they became useless to me

Oh look cobalt.  Now I can make a drill and mine all this mythril, making the cobalt completely obsolete. Hurray.
