Well... In my view, I haven't yet more two bands that plays a music so abstract that ELP and King Crimson.
 
Certainly KC are the abstract in music. But also ELP...
 
And for you... which is your preferred band between these two bands?

King Crimson for sure, they're more interesting and consistent.

KC has one  masterpiece for me   while ELP has at least two

Every ELP album from 1970 to 1973 is better than any KC album for me.

ELP...but Crimson will win this by a huge margin.

King Crimson, definitely. If it would have been against Yes or Gabriel-era Genesis it would have been much more difficult. ELP is my least favourite of the major symphonic bands, relied too much on covers, and really didn't produce much of any interest after BSS.

I like each for different reasons so I voted both.  Ying Yang  Objectively though, KC has a lot more to offer, being more adventurous, consistent in quality, and prolific.

Your list has no covers. It has classical adaptions. Different thing entirely.

Both of these bands are in my top 5. And I'll certainly agree that KC has had a much more consistent output. But then again it's been more than one band really hasn't it. Fresh blood can definitely make a difference. But really I prefer keyboard oriented music to guitar oriented music first of all and then with the first 6 albums ELP did, they forever cemented themselves in "Holy Crap these guys kick azz" hall of fame. And now with the recent release of Keith Emerson Band in Moscow Emo proves once more that no matter how hard life is and no matter what it throws at him he is the king of keyboards.

I love both bands, but King Crimson has the far more consistent discography.
