Why are Fantomas and Mr Bungle here...

...but Faith no More isn't?

They have more catchy songs and modal song scructures, but I feel they're just as progressive in nature as the other two bands.  Just listen to "Midnight Cowboy" or "King for a Day" or "Star AD".

What does everyone else think?

Allmusic.com's biography describes them as "a mixture of metal, funk, hip-hop() and PROGRESSIVE ROCK".

hmmm, well faith no more is pretty complex but ive always considered it more alternative than anything, mike pattons other projects (epsecially mr.bungle) are more prog i guess, even though ive always called it jazz-metal... but i think im the only one who calls it that.

What does everyone else think? Patton was in Faith No More, but you can't compare it to Mr. Bungle. Have you listened to Disco Volante? And Fantomas, well, it's pretty weird. It can still be considered progressive though - especially with albums like 'Delerium Cordia'.

I own every FNM, Bungle and Fantomas disc with Disco Volante being my favorite album Patton's ever lent his vocal cords to.

Bungle and Fantomas are certainly more unconvential and erratic, but FNM is very expiremental in their own right not to mention the symphonic qualities of Roddy Bottum's keyboard work.

Faith No More has been a source of inspiration for many a punk band. I, for one, have encountered (and rather enjoyed) two musical masterpieces called

No More Faith No More

and

Faith No More an We Hate Them More and More

Incidentally, anybody who's into Bungle/FNM should check out the following bands:

Estradasphere (more jazzy, and also with Eastern European folk music and occasional bursts of death metal!)

Thought Industry (just weird)

Dog Fashion Disco (a sort of nu metal version of Faith No More with circus music [not as bad as it sounds!]; their first album is pretty dull but there's some stuff I really like on the second one)

and finally, a band I just found out about:

Sigh (From Japan: think Mr. Bungle crossed with black metal!)

faith no more are awesome and perhaps proggish...excellent band !

Granted that ANGEL DUST is one of my favorite albums, I'm just not sure about them being prog.

But, it's true that they weren't held back categorically. They were a very interesting and adventurous band.

THE REAL THING was actually the very first album I ever bought (on tape, age 5).

They shouldn't be here.

I think having a "few proggy songs" shouldn't make someone liable to be "Prog-Rock", or even on a Prog-Rock archive.

Some people have said Metallica's "One" has some prog elements... but you couldn't fit Metallica in here if you tried.

I'm a Faith No More fan, but when it comes to putting them on a Prog website, they can f**k off.
