Progressive Metal band Iron Maiden, featuring singer Paul Di'Anno on their first two albums before tattooed millionaire and airline pilot Bruce Dickinson arrived on the scene. I must admit, I was half-expecting Iron Maiden's first album to be a 2-star bummer, but it's actually a 4-star bomber, and if you don't believe me, then have a listen to this...

Iron Maiden are not a progressive metal band, they were an influence on early progressive metal bands (that's why they are prog-related here on PA), that's true.

I'm not sure if you are baiting again or not knowing much on the subject. Confused
Obviously. I'm not as knowledgeable as you are about metal bands,  but I doubt if I'd ever give a dismal 1-star rating to any Iron Maiden album. I'm planning to listen to their Virtual XI album tomorrow, so hopefully, I won't find it as dreadful as you clearly did.  As a general rule, I save my 1-star ratings for Avant Prog albums. Tongue

I'm fast-approaching the final destination aboard Flight 666 with Bruce Dickinson & co and this is what I've discovered about Iron Maiden so far....

Best studio album:- The Number of the Beast (1982)

Worst studio album:- Virtual XI (1998) - something Cristi & I actually agree on for a change. Big smile

Best live album:- Flight 666 (2009)

Worst live album:- None Thumbs Up

NOTB their best? What came after in the 80s is much better IMO.
Best live album? Live After Death by far.

Worst live album? Those from the Fear of the Dark tour are nothing special IMO.

^ Oh well, I wasn't expecting you to agree with everything I said, but at least we both agree that Virtual XI is Iron Maiden's worst album by far. Como Estais Amigo? Smile

Okay, based on your recommendation. I'll give Live After Death another listen right now. You never know, I might re-evaluate the album and give it a 4-star rating. Big smile

You were right! It's a 4-star album for sure, proving once again that you know far more about Metal than I do. Embarrassed

I listened to Live After Death again this morning, only this time I watched the video instead of just listening to the audio track, which really brought the concert to life, so to speak. Tongue

Janison Edge: an outstanding one-album band with an edge over many of the better-known Neo Prog bands, mainly due to some stunning keyboard wizardry and the soaring, honey-voiced tones of singer Sue Element. Thumbs Up

Not a band I've ever come across before but this is not at all bad. Thanks Paul.

King Kulasekhara was an Indian king from the 9th century, so it seems an ideal name for a 21st century Indian-influenced Neo Psychedelic band from London. You may have assumed Kula Shaker had packed way their sitars, tambouras and tabla drums for good back in 2016 with the release of their fifth album "K 2.0" but they're back again shaking their kulas all about in 2022 with the release of a brand new album! Thumbs Up

Paul, I recommended this one to you some time back and I'm really pleased you have managed to give it a go and like it so much... I knew you would. Alan, there's no reason at all that you shouldn't also enjoy it. It's a one-off gem.

Glorified Magnified has been an essential album on SPACE PIRATE RADIO since the very first broadcast.  I would definitely give it another star.  and nicely bookended with Lunar Dunes from more recent broadcasts.  nicely done, Paul.

Blackpool Rocks! Nth Ascension are a little-known Neo Prog band from the seaside town of Blackpool. Be warned though: the earnest, overwrought vocals of Michael Alan Taylor are an acquired taste. They should appeal to fans of Gentle Giant or Van der Graaf Generator though. Wink

The Othello Syndrome: an Eclectic Prog band from Wales who are often compared to Van der Graaf Generator, although this superb one-off album leaves Pawn Hearts far behind in the shadows in my opinion. Thumbs Up
