In a similar vein of Prog Idol, list some prog songs that would be hard as hell on Guitar Hero. That would include guitar, bass, a crappy drumset with only 6 different things to hit, and vocals. Unfortunately, no keyboards, or else choosing hard songs would be a lot easier.
Personally, I think I'd put these ones on:
Metropolis Pt. 1 - Dream Theater
Sound Chaser - Yes
21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson
Goliath - The Mars Volta
By-Tor And the Snow Dog - Rush
These would be some of the harder ones to play. Of course, these are pretty popular songs, I'm sure that many others could come up with some other ones.
Keep in mind a couple of things:
-There is no left foot pedal for the drums. That means lots of tricky hi-hat lifts will be a lot easier to play on the game and double bass sections will cut out all the hits that would be normally be done by the left foot.
-Extreme growls and screams are a no-no. A couple of lines like that is probably okay. Otherwise, nothing. That's why there are no Meshuggah songs on my list.
-Keep the length of the song shorter if you can. Nobody wants to play 20 minutes of "Gates of Delirium" no matter how hard it is (yes I realize all of them on my list were over 7 minutes long, but that's standard prog length my friend).
Anyways, I thought this would be a fun topic, even if some people here probably think it's a useless game that people play so they think they are good musicians. -------------

YYZ has already appeared in a Guitar Hero game (GH3, I think). Since Rock Band came out, both games are focusing on songs that have vocals, which is a shame because some of the best songs from the first three Guitar Hero games were instrumentals (such as YYZ). Not much prog finds it's way into Guitar Hero and Rock Band unless it's prog metal or Rush. Although several no-too-prog songs from bands in PA have been in past games. |

^ Guitar Hero II actually... Tom Sawyer has is on the World Tour one I think as well. (Rush is pretty universal guitar rock I suppose) If you buy Guitar Hero III for your PC, you can download tons of free charts that people have made, and all you have to do is some other fiddly stuff (which can be explained better by some Tutorial somewhere, so I'll leave it to them) and play pretty much any song you want. There is a site that has a HUGE database of songs. If they don't have YOUR song, you could make it yourself, although it is quite tedious to do so. -------------  |

They could put "Kayleigh", "Lavender" and "Easter" from Marillion on there, although those songs aren't too
proggy. I think "Close To The Edge" or "Gates Of Delirium" would be insane, I would possibly buy it just for those 2. Shame that GH doesn't have a synth controller, that would be so badass. -------------

Maybe for the sake of it being prog the "Legends of Prog" game would only have 1 song on each tier for difficulty. Think about it
1. Easy
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond"
2. Harder, but still pretty easy
"Supper's Ready"
3. Mezzo-easy
"Thick as a Brick Pt. 1"
4. Medium
"Anesthetize"
5. Hard
"2112"
6. Even more difficult
"Gates of Delirium"

"Cassandra Gemini"
8. Arms falling off status
"In The Presence of Enemies"

| It would be interesting to try and play Cassandra Gemini. It would be fun to play Starless and Bible Black on Guitar, but even more fun to do vocals for A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers. Bands like Mahavishnu Orchestra or Henry Cow would be hard to play, I don't know how GH would represent some of Frith's guitar playing. |

The drummer would have a rough time, but the guitar part is all just right hand and I don't think the interfaces could reliably reproduce alternate picking at that intricacy. ------------- You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. Yeah, I checked its wiki page and saw some more of the details. Can't say I'll be very excited as the majority of the playlist seems to be more of the same boring -.- but as soon as they make a game dedicated to prog I'll be there

I totally hate guitar hero because if you are able to play the guitar you will suck at guitar hero.. this is what tells us the southpark episode guitar queer-o season 11.  when i got to play this with my friends some time i loosed all the time although i thought i must have a huge andvantage because of my skills on guitar - but i failed ^^ ------------- It's just a ride... <3 |
