Absolutely fantastic recent Progressive Rock band. Been listening to their debut all week!
They're playing a gig at the Garage in London on Tuesday, interested to see if there's anyone from the forums that is going along too.

Indeed they get a lot of praise. Great album, truly eclectic prog.

Love them. Glad to see they are still together (mostly; I know one guy is in Baron now). Hopefully they'll have a new release soon...?!
Sorry, can't make it to London this week. |

Hi, I saw them last weekend in Leeds supporting Wolf People and they were pretty amazing. The sound has changed slightly from the first album and is more sax dominated now, but in a really good way. Does anybody have live recordings of this band to trade?

I'm sort of partial to perpendicular.

I got their album since quite some time ago and gave it several spins, I thought it was good with some nice 70's influences but I found it too noisy and monotonous in many places, it didn't really catch my attention and I left it gathering dust.
Maybe I should give them another chance...

Is it really "of the 2000's", though? I'm fairly certain it was written in the early 70s and then travelled through time to 2008 to be released.

The band were just fantastic that is really what I think.
One of the weirdest smelling gigs I've been to. It had a great mix of old and young and there was much more dancing than I expected. Das is goot! I got the chance to talk to some of the guys from Diagonal and they were saying they've actually lost 2 members since the last album, so new singer and a much more sax. They sounded great live, they really did. Definately putting up a review soon. Wolf People were also great, had a jazz flute guest star! The lead singer had a lust for old English genesis style singing and the drummer had a fiendishly tight sound!

This thread deserves a bump!
I discovered Diagonal some months ago thanks to Astra and I love them! The first album is great but I like even more The Second Mechanism which is one of my favourite 2012 albums!!

The debut is one of the greatest prog albums I have heard always drawing me back to the music. It reminds me of Opeths Heritage in some ways - 70s prog music with a modern flavour.

Definitely a great album, and I was looking forward for their second album but still haven't grabbed it yet.
Can anyone comment on it? |
