I am starting this thread cos I happen to have a nostalgia for old classic music magazines featuring prog
remember the 70s with Circus, Creem, or Rock. These mags really went into depth on prog bands often.,
Heres an example of a classic music magazine for the unitiiated

You overlooked the KANSAS COLOR POSTER in that top one.

Lets move onto to the wonderful Creem magazine
heres what it looked like in the 70s
now some issues with at least some prog artists mentioned
Blimey - Bowie was popular! this features also Roxy Music and Deep Purple
A Zeppelin issue - why not?
the Who and Rush in 1979 the year of punk!
Roxy Music and Zappa are on this cover - but I only posted it cos of Blondie I will admit - meow!
Great if you like Captain Beefheart - But I would have owned this cos Kiss are on the cover - I literally bought everything with them in it.
Not much prog was there?
lets try again
it states King Crimson and Sabbath are in it in 1974...
Ok we got ELP , Wakeman and Queen.... ho hum. 1979 Readers poll was not into prog sadly
Nice to see Devo though! and Heart are fab
another?
Tull in 1978
next
yeah Nugent.... er... next.
Jefferson... er Starship is in this 1978, dont mention Springsteen
next
1980 and at least Pink Floyds wall features
ah yes the unbelievably proggy Asia features! but once again I only posted this cos of Blondie.... i will see you rocking it in December Debbie - cant wait!
readers poll features.... er nobody. But Queen are here somewhere. 1982 was a death knell to prog
ah Genesis in 1987 who can forget - The Cure is here, forgive me if I dont get excited - I guess this mag flew off the shelves in 1987.
one more for this post
Steve Winwood in 1988! nice mag...

In 82 its the Who and Gabriel

Since most of the classic porg bands of the 70s were quite popular during that decade, it's not surprising that they were featured in music magazines of that time. These days, try progression magazine, for full coverage of all things prog.

Lets keep going - i am learning about mags in the 70s and early 80s here.. i am learning mainstream mags had very little prog
underground mags were full of it - whats that say? we all know prog is always an alternative style of music
did mainstream mags feature prog - were there any prog specials?
like this
a Q classic that introduced me to the world of Prog!
lets look on
Rush in 1981 - but once again Debbie's beauty captivates me here.
1972 - must be worth something - features movie Clockwork Orange.
Guitar Heroes.... ok... features Styx
next
A Doors special in 1981 - exciting?
A Tull expose' in 1975 - what did he do - take out his flute in public?
