www.david-cross.com www.noisy.co.uk Tel:(+44)-20-8922-7254 Press Release November 2009 CD TITLE: ENGLISH SUN ARTIST: DAVID CROSS (King Crimson) AND ANDREW KEELING (Classical composer and flute player) GENRE: ROCK AND CLASSICAL LABEL: ELECTRIC CHAMBER MUSIC RECORD COMPANY: NOISY RECORDS LIMITED RELEASE DATE: 1st February 2010 AVAILABLE FROM noisy.co.uk and distributed in David Cross pioneered the electric violin in the groundbreaking King Crimson and has continued to push back the boundaries of the instrument in rock (David Cross Band) and improvised music (solo and in collaborations) performing and recording in Europe and Andrew Keeling has written music for Opus 20, Het Trio, The Hilliard Ensemble, The Apollo Saxophone Quartet, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Evelyn Glennie, The Goldberg Ensemble, Fretwork, Virelai, Gothic Voices, Jacob Heringman, Matthew Wadsworth, Catherine King, Steven Wray and many others. He is the author of A Musical Guide to In the Court of the Crimson King and is an inspiring flautist. In English Sun, Cross and Keeling have created a beautiful, contemporary album inspired by their shared immersion in rock and western art music. The tracks are distinctive, ranging from the brittle, wind swept landscape of ‘High Scree’ to the deep baroque drama of ‘Dido’. This is new music by anybody’s standard and it extends and further defines the meaning of Electric Chamber Music. The Electric Chamber Music label exists to develop music drawing on the materials of western art music and rock which expands the dynamic and timbral boundaries of both these styles. From western art music come melodic devices, scales, harmony and structures and from rock come a sense of voice, improvisation, collaboration, rhythms, sounds and a wide range of effects (such as delay, reverb, distortion and looping).
