"The Norwegian Act formed by Sondre Skollevoll, MORON POLICE released their first album "The Propaganda Machine" in 2012. The project was the first taste of Skollevoll's wacky and absurd, yet detailed and complex multi-genre writing style. The band released a second LP "Defenders of the Small Yard" in 2014, which kept the same upbeat, fun, metal infused inspirations as their first album. Moron Police's 2019 album "A Boat on the Sea" showed them shifting to progressive pop-rock with clear anime and video game score influences. An extremely captivating and humorous band that offers something for all types of prog lovers."

Thanks for the information and the suggestion.

Although I find the music quite enjoyable, I don't think it quite fits under Eclectic and would suggest it for Crossover, however, I notice that their team has already rejected for inclusion.

Is there any other team that would want to review?

Yeah they are kind of tough band to pin point a genre on. Their first two albums might be best categorized under heavy prog maybe (even progressive metal with songs like "Charlie's Enormous Mouth" and "Soul Train of Damned"). Their last album "A Boat on the Sea" is a bit of outlier which could listed as symphonic perhaps?

It's sad that a band that is clearly progressive in its approach to music and its music itself isn't included on this site because "we don't know exactly in which category it fits".

Tja.

Tell you what, this is a band that should be included in the Archives, so I'm going to see what everyone else says about it in the Eclectic team.  I have a feeling that it will be suggested to move it to another category, but at least it will be in the loop.  For now, I'll forward it on to the Eclectic team.

The entire Eclectic team quickly voted to move this one to the Crossover team.

Glad this suggestion has been revamped. I do agree, there is no doubt that Moron Police has very progressive aspects and deserves a spot on this site, regardless of what genre they are slotted. They really could fit under a lot of genres, especially seeing as they are in the midst of writing an EP which seems to have a lot of "cowboy metal" sounds. Looking forward to seeing what is decided by the crossover prog team.

Side note - the band on Instagram alludes to how deeply influenced they are by progressive rock and metal. They've posted numerous times showing their heavy influence from Genesis as well as bands like Camel, Devin Townsend, The Dear Hunter, Fair to Midland etc.

Another telling point that this band deserves a place on this site is that sole driver/brain of Moron Police, Sondre Skollevoll, joined the band Major Parkinson (who has been labelled under eclectic prog) since their last record. Just a thought.

Anyways, I just truly feel like this band is deeply under appreciated and would definitely be able to gain a lot of traction within the prog community.

Sorry but Crossover Team have re-rejected them via their latest album.

And it seems this is still the case. I’ve never known anyone to think of this band as anything other than a prog band, but it seems they don’t fit nicely into any category here. Kind of ironic when thinking outside the box is what prog is all about, that PA is so rigid with their boxes. (Not a criticism, by the way, so much as an observation.)

I think they would have a pretty easy time getting on the site under heavy prog or progressive metal if they were brought forward before their latest album. Its almost a shame they cant be included because they change it up for one record. Maybe if they release as many albums as KG&LW they could get allocated a blanket genre.

Hopefully one day the band can be included since they clearly fall within the genre of progressive rock, they even said so themselves! Fingers crossed!

My thoughts exactly. I just listened to A Boat on the Sea again yesterday and I don't hesitate to call it a masterpiece. Everything about it is excellent and there are chops and progressive elements galore (amazing proggy solos, tempo and time signature changes, repetition of motifs, interesting song structures, complex drumming). I'm absolutely astounded that they're still not on this site.

I still think that this band not being added to the archives is pretty ridiculous. If the reason for not adding a band is that don't fit into defined genres then there is probably a handful of bands that are truly great that get left out. Id argue that a band such as Moron Police, with great, progressive, modern sounding music are way more progressive compared to 'progressive rock' bands that are putting out music which is extremely influenced and almost derivative of other prog bands from HALF A CENTURY.

I know Moron Police has only put out a short EP (which was a kind of a collection progressive western style rock songs that didn't fit on their last album) since the time this post was created. However, the band has announced they are partially done recording a full length concept album featuring The Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Billy Rymer and I gotta assume that it will make it quite difficult find a reason to not add this band.

I know of a prog radio station that didn't want to add them but in that case it was because of the vocals.

The only reason for a re-evaluation is the release of new music.
