No. Not THOSE type of adult animated films.
Pick your favourite on the list or mention others if not included. There are tons of other strong candidates worth mentioning. But I believe this is a strong selection anyway. My vote goes to one of the most moving and finest war films ever made (not exaggerating even a little): Grave Of The Fireflies. Edited by Morningrise - February 23 2019 at 22:54 |

This is totally NOT what I thought you meant by adult.
I freaking love "Isle of Dogs" One you left out. "Doomstar Requiem: A Klok Opera". Edited by Tapfret - February 23 2019 at 23:30 |

I just saw "Tower".
Not entirely animated, it depicts the shootings that took place at the University of Texas tower building in 1966 mixing animation with real footage and testimonies of those who survived the tragedy. Highly recommendable. Edited by Morningrise - February 24 2019 at 08:42 |

I've seen about half of these but don't really remember most of them that well. Voted for Princess Mononoke.

"The Secret of N.I.M.H" is my all time favourite animated movie. Timless and so wonderfully made. Don Bluth at hes best.

Lots I love in this list and would have voted for had it been set up as multiple voting, but plus one for Grave of the Fireflies (I do like your polls). I love pretty much everything Studio Ghibli, but that's a special one.
Not on the list, I would give particular mention to When the Wind Blows (powerful film). And Summer Wars as a lesser-known and modern one that I think worth seeing for those into Japanese animation. Edited by Logan - February 24 2019 at 08:20 |

Couldn't agree more. I didn't include it here, but it is in one of my 80s movies lists. Beautiful movie. |

Haven't seen any of those two. I'm sure they are great. When it comes to anime, there's so much to choose from. Appleseed, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Vampire Hunter D didn't make the cut, but they are also rock solid. Not to mention the entire Ghibli catalogue. I would have flooded this poll with Ghibli movies, but I tried to narrow it down to only 3 movies so the selection was more varied (it did hurt a lot not to include at least Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, which is another favourite of mine). I think that you'll be very moved by When the Wind Blows if you see it -- beautiful and quite devastating (has music by Roger Waters, by the way, feature song sung by Bowie and features Genesis' The Brazilian in the soundtrack). I rarely sob in films...
Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind is a particular Ghibli fave of mine too, and loved The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. By the way, if you haven't seen the TV animated, Japanese series Death Note and it is available to you, I absolutely loved it. I;m guessing you've seen Akira. On another note, Ralph Bakshi's The Lord of the Rings had a big impact on me growing up. There's so much brilliant animated work. |

Yes. When I first saw your recommendations, I searched for When The Wind Blows at imdb and the word that was continuously repeating in user reviews was "disturbing", besides almost everyone highlighting the film's quality and how it will deeply affect you. So it really got me intrigued. I will surely check it out at some point. I have seen Death Note and Akira, of course. Both wonderful (Akira is on the list). Other great anime tv series not yet mentioned is Cowboy Bebop. And Saint Seiya accompanied me through all my childhood years. So it also holds a very special place in my heart. Strangely though, even when I'm familiar with it, I never saw the animated version of The Lord Of The Rings. Edited by Morningrise - February 24 2019 at 09:23 |

So Akira is, missed it somehow. No worse, I forgot despite having looked over your list carefully (lack of sleep over a long period). I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop. When the Wind Blows can be very depressing indeed (double-bill it with the Japanese live action film Black Rain (Kuroi ame))..
One of my particular favourites on your list is The Plague Dogs (I do seem to go for a lot of depressing or disturbing stuff). Various on your list would have surely made my list had I done this poll (three of yours I haven't seen). By the way, I did a poll myself about six years on animated films: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=91663 Your poll is more popular, mine only got seven votes (and this place was busier back then), we have some overlap. Looking back on it, I always find it really depressing when people can't find anything to like or be interested in looking into lists of my favourites and only mention others.... I then think, I'm leaving this site for good, yet I persist here. I came closest to leaving when I did an 80s Cinema Fantastique poll of my favourites and someone went "other" with Karate Kid. I died a little inside that day. ;) Edited by Logan - February 24 2019 at 10:21 |

Ha. Trust me. I know the feeling of taking your time preparing polls like these and not getting any attention or feedback. I know it can be utterly frustrating (even more so when people completely miss the point). But I do enjoy all the preparation and analysis. Perhaps even more than the outcome the poll will get. It's sort of therapeutic I would say. I'm a sucker for data, lists and statistics. There was a time when I completely abandoned this site. But since last year I started participating more actively and I'm glad I did it (even though as you previously mentioned, the activity in this forum has decreased considerably). |

Voted for Heavy Metal, it's like over 30 years ago that I saw it but I remember I had some good laughs.

Hernan did mention that he hasn't seen Lord of the Rings, so that one one couldn't expect (I'm assuming that these are all ones that he knows and likes). As for Wizards, I wouldn't assume that he has seen it either (my old list had Bakshi's Fritz the Cat and Lord of the Rings, but not Wizards -- had seen it before, but hadn't thought of immediately). Only reason Fritz made my list is because of nostalgia (watched it with a bunch of friends when I was 13).
When I do such polls, it's not about what's best, it's about what I think of that I have watched and really enjoyed. I think that there's lots of quality in this list, and if one couldn't find one to say positive things about, then one likely isn't familiar with the majority. |

^ Correct, Logan. Haven't seen Wizards either.
But even if I had seen these 2 movies, the chances I could have included the 3 of them on this poll are really slim. The list does include 3 Satoshi Kon movies and 3 studio Ghibli ones only because I adore their body of work (I even said how it hurt not to include Nausicaa as well) As I previously stated, I tried to provide a varied selection of different auteurs. Of course I didn't expect everyone to agree with my list. Hence, my suggestion to mention every other favourites not included in the OP. Edited by Morningrise - February 24 2019 at 12:41 |

I voted for Fantasia, its a piece of fine art combined with boundery breaking animation. One of the most ambitious animated movies. It celebrates eightyeth anniversary next year.
