Almost every Italian band.   95% of them made one album.  Wink
...that moment you realize you like "Mob Rules" better than "Heaven and Hell"

I've got a couple almost-discographies...

Yes - except for Magnification
Pink Floyd - except for More (does that even count, as it's a soundtrack?)
Genesis - except for Genesis
GG - except for Giant for a day / Civilian (do those even count?)

Thinking about it, the only prog band that I have a complete discography is Van Der Graaf ... but I've only listened to three of them so far Embarrassed I'm hoping to spend some time with it in the near future.

In non prog, I have a few more ... Tom Cochrane/Red Rider, 54-40, Odds, Barney Bentall (minus the new album, still have to pick that up), Tears for Fears, Swimfail

I barely own anything because of downloading music.  Yeah, people get on me about the fact that I download everything sometimes.  But honestly, I wouldn't be able to listen to the kind of music I do if I didn't, half the albums I have would take me quite a while to hunt down, so I never would've listened initially if I didn't download.

The only two I can think of are Be Bop Deluxe and Queen, but you may disagree with me as I'm excluding Made In Heaven and The Cosmos Rocks, because I don't consider them proper studio albums.

Steely Dan is in the archives? Travesty!

Led Zeppelin
Dream Theater
Iron Maiden
Porcupine Tree
Opeth
Muse
Radiohead
All of the original Black Sabbath (I have some of the Dio and Tony Martin stuff, too)
Metallica

I have nearly all of Yes, most of Pink Floyd, nearly all the Police.

It can be expensive collecting entire discographies!

mmhm I own a lot of entire discographies, even though I must say most of the "historic" prog bands sooner or later in their career released some awful s**t that doesn't deserve being owned. Still, I usually try to buy those weak albums just for the sake of having them all, if I really like the band and they're no more than a couple. I am a completionist.
Then there's bands like Genesis, ELP, PFM, Le Orme or Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. Some things they've done truly scare me, I am not sure I want to go there Smile There's also bands like Gong or Hawkwind whose discographies are almost impossible to own, due to the sheer number of albums they released. I am working ot them though :D

My list includes, limited to bands of some prog relevance that have released a significant amount of albums:

Queen
Iron Maiden
Metallica
Death
Nevermore
Misanthrope
Psychotic Waltz
Meshuggah
Riverside
Royal Hunt
Savatage
Orphaned Land
Pain of Salvation
Dream Theater
Symphony X
Artension
DGM
Dredg
Fates Warning
Gojira
Opeth
Shadow Gallery
Tool
Porcupine Tree
Camel
Area (with Stratos)
Marillion
Pink Floyd
King Crimson
Yes
Gentle Giant
Rush
Caravan
IQ

Then of course there's a gazillion of Italian bands that made only a couple of albums, like Quella Vecchia Locanda, Il Balletto di Bronzo, Delirium or Metamorfosi. And some works in progress. And those I might have forgotten.
In the end, it doesn't matter how many albums you own, there's still a lot more out there. I for sure own only a small part of what I'd like to have. My "to buy" list is loooong.

Out of a total of 133 albums (that I own as CDs/MP3s; which doesn't count all of my previous cassette and LP purchases which I no longer have) I have not managed a complete discography for any one artist.  It used to be my goal but now I am more choosing my albums in a more or less orderly way in which I attempt to level the amount of music I own from different years.  With a specific budget I make selections 1 to 4 albums at a time.

Here are my top five (irrespective of prog as the genre):

Yes 16/19 = 84%
Dave Matthews Band 5/7 = 71%
Genesis 9/15 = 60%
Alan Parsons/Project 7/15 = 47%
Rush 8/18 = 44%

My total album count was based on studio only.

Now I've gone and estimated that I have owned (or made cassette copies from my brother's LPs) approximately 388 albums total in my lifetime.  So I am at 133/388 = 34% ownership of albums with which I am familiar.  I will probably never reach 100% due to the fact that my musical interests have changed and I am exploring new music as well as reacquiring old music.  I used to be 100% with a few prog bands with their discographies up through the 80s and 90s.

Speaking of Metamorfosi, I only own Inferno and I like it a lot.  What other albums should I get?

They have released three albums, the first being "E fu il sesto giorno" in 1972, then "Inferno" in 1973 and finally "Paradiso" in 2004. The first one is good but not even close to Inferno. Frankly you can pass on that. It's not that it's bad, because it isn't, but it's not a milestone. Paradiso on the other hand is quite interesting, Spitaleri is at his best and it's nice to hear the band (actually, just Spitaleri and Olivieri) thirty years after their masterpiece. From what I know, they are currently working on "Purgatorio", the last chapter of their trilogy on Dante's Divina Commedia, but I have no idea of when it might be released.

Wow, man, I want your CD collection! That's amazing. How much did all that stuff cost you?

Twenty years of sacrifices, and counting LOL Seriously, Amazon and play.com help a lot in finding albums at low prices. Then wherever I go around the world I always look for that used cds store on the corner that might just have something interesting. Anyway, I am absolutely no pro, I know people who own literally thousands of cds and vynils.
