We have bands in the US who should be imprisoned for crimes against music. With a name like "Pussy Riot", I can only imagine their crimes against music are numerous.
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Jesus, are you people thick or what? Here's the relation Che has with this whole thing:
1 - retarded people think he was a freedom fighter 2 - said people usually idolize him and have all kind of memorabilia with his face on 3 - wearing a shirt with his face on is considered kewl because his cause was "noble" 4 - he fought against capitalism and its excesses (consumism included) 5 - he was against freedom of expression 6 - he was a racist towards black people (after he returned from his gerrilla time in Africa) 7 - he supported and was supported by totalitarian socialist regimes 8 - people use Che as a toke, a symbol in order to fight oppressive regimes of all sorts
It's a paradox, an oxymoron. I can't believe you guys are actually this oblivious.
So, you mean that the Pussy Riot members are supported by the totalitarian socialist regime (especially Cuba) and are racist? I'm more and more confused by the evolution of this thread.
Or maybe I'm wrong in this story and I should consider supporting Poutine because this former KGB agent, supported by the Russian Church and nostalgics of totalitarian communist USSR, had been insulted by a bunch of pro-Guevara socialist punks... or something
I think that's more or less what our friend CCVP is trying to say in his guide by numbers for simpletons. So, people who support Pussy Riot are retarded (Gary Kasparov et al). They only support PR cos its 'kewl'. and their cause is concidered 'noble' but (ho ho) its not really.
They like Che are fighting against 'consumism'. And they don't really like freedom of expression even though they pretend to. Pussy Riot are racists since their time spent in Africa. They are oxymorons
Is that clear?
You missed the point completely. I was trying to explain the relation between Lucas' reference to Che Guevara, but you apparently refuse to understand. It's not that you can't understand, you REFUSE to understand the point; or you simply don't want to.

Russia is run by strong-arm thugs, a corrupt orthodox church, and its mafia. And apparently we're supposed to be their allies. What a joke.
True. I've heard that the Russian Orthodox Church is supposedly one of the most corrupt "traditional" religions around, even though it's not nearly as corrupt as born-again congregations/organizations/televangelists that call themselves "churches".
But in any way, their profanation would be considered a crime in most western countries. The thing is that they did it in an Russian Orthodox Church (a religion that over 70 years of state atheism and anti-religion couldn't kill) in the biggest and most sacred cathedral of Moscow (if I recall correctly the place they did their protest) against Vladimir Putin, the unofficial dictator of Rashka.

Sense of humor doesn't exist in America.

Well, it would depend if it would be considered as profanation. I'm not sure, but I think that the French law would only speak of "disturbance of civic peace". But, hey, it's France: we only talk of profanation when the church/synagogue/mosque is trashed, burnt, attacked and all that jazz. Oh, and we're talking about profanation, it's when we experience the horror and shock of discovering opened tombs, jewish or muslim cemetaries painted with racist insults or nazi symbols.

Maybe I did not used the most appropriate technical terminology, but the thing is, entering in a religious temple and openly and publicly doing what they did there is, usually some sort of crime exist related to that behavior. If memory serves me well, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal have crimes regarding such actions.
And don't France have anything regarding that criminally? I find it hard to believe, since, as far as I know, it is strictly prohibited to have any religious manifestation in public in France, so the only sensible thing would be to protect religious freedom equally prohibiting such acts. Quite strange IMO.

I don't want to sound ruder than usual, but even Jamaican or African metal bands have more press than Russian metal bands... That must mean something.

This is a joke, right ?
Stalin starved people in Ukraine. In consequence, they had to eat their own children to stay alive.
From 1917 to 1980, the communist party is responsible for 120 milion deaths.
I hate when people living in "western"countries talk about how life was good in countries with communist government. My parents left Poland during the Jaruzelski years, mainly because my father was jailed for having given his opinion on the government's politics (yes, freedom of speech was banned).
And I hate even more people who wear T-shirts or other goods bearing the face of the terrorist Che Guevera (a physician who kills people, isn't that inconsistent ?).
Well said. I can't even begin to explain how much I hate people like that.

Yes, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal... And I guess that Ireland, United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, etc... also have laws regarding these kind of acts. But the State and the Church are not strictly seperated as in France.
About France and religious manifestations in public... You should precise what you mean, because the Catholics still can do processions for the 15 of August, for example; the Muslims can celebrate the various Aļds; the Jews can go out with masks for Pourim, etc...
Of course, the French law would protect religious freedom (as long as the said religion doesn't violate the law) in the name of the fight against discrimination. But invading a church wouldn't be qualified as "profanation" or "blaspheme" (except in Alsace-Lorraine and Guyana) or even hate crime as long as these acts are not motivated... by hate.
If the Pussy Riot case happened in France, their members would have been accused of disturbance of civic order. They would have spent a few hours in the next cell, but they wouldn't have condemned to 2 years of imprisonment! Maybe a bill to pay...
