prog public relations

im glad prog isnt really well known, im glad im one of the 3 people in my school out of 2500 who like prog, i dont want Genesis or Yes to become like Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin, where as in every other person who likes "Classic Rock" has to love zeppelin and sabbath. if people started liking prog, soon enough we will see Yes shirts on the street, ive only seen one ELP shirt, and it was on a gay guy on davie street in downtown vancouver, and it was the tarkus album. my point is, i dont want prog to become well known and people who are trend whores start to like it because it becomes popular and then the band experience is ruined, because i know that out of all my classes this term, im the only person who knows the guitarist for camel, the jokes about phil collins, the drummer for king crimsons first two albums. i take pride in knowing this. and it would lose alot to me if alot of people starting liking prog.

i'm sure it's much more fun to share your extensive prog knowledge and hilarious Phil Collins jokes with yourself then it would ever be to have someone else to share them with.

It really seems like you get off on the fact that prog is a relatively unpopular form of music. I think a large part of why you like it is in order to go against the grain or feel unique.  If this has any consideration in your liking of prog I would say you're not a true prog listener who values the music for its intrinsic worth.  I would like prog just as much if it were extremely popular and if you're saying that you wouldn't, it's obviously not all about the music for you.  And I'm sorry but the fact that Led Zeppelin is popular does not "ruin the band experience" for me, that's absolutely ridiculous!! 

I do kind of like the fact that prog is not that well known, but I wouldn't bother me if it was. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are two of my favourite bands and it doesn't bother me that they're well known (although I doubt that many of todays teenagers could name you a Led Zep song).

You may well have missed out, but back in 70s prog WAS big. ELP were THE band of the year in UK in '72. Most people in my school knew and talked prog and we'd swop latest Lp's with each other and scrawl yes/elp/blue oyster cult/vdgg logos all over our school books............ I really don't follow your logic at all.  I think I'd prefer a trend whore to an elitist snob!

I remember those days - it was the same at my school. I spent many a happy hour trying to draw the Yes logo on my school books. Perhaps I should have listened to the teachers a bit more.

I don't know any other person who like prog. I would like to have some real prog friends to talk with them about music and stuff. Not many, but few.

In my school, there is a little community of prog lovers. It is great to be able to share our passion with others. And we all proudly wear our Yes, Genesis and VDGG t-shirts.

You are damn right! It was very hard to find all the T-shirts I own. Don't give up!

i agree with the fragiledt that it would be awesome if became popular again, i just dont wnat it to become overblown and people calling us trend whores for liking the music, yet ive liked it fro about 3 years now, and im only 16. my mind is a mess of thoughts so ill try to get to the point,

others liking prog= great........

others claiming to have liked prog for long time= bad, and inevitable

others making prog bands and making sucky songs and calling it prog, like 3 man genesis = the apocalypse
