Should I be embarrassed that I own 70 of those albums? Embarrassed

A couple of those I wouldn't consider neo-prog, but hey, other listeners must or it wouldn't be that way on RYM.

I'm not actually, but there is a segment of the forum population that oozes elitism and tends to look down their noses at neo-prog as some sort of peasantry in the prog landscape and they make their disdain of it known in many a thread here. Thus my sentence was a bit of a joke and a little knock at that elitism. Hopefully this doesn't ruffle any feathers (I think it's known here that I love both neo/symph and avant simultaneously).

Neither Echolyn or Spock's Beard are neo-prog.

I'm surprised there is no Sanguine Hum, The Psychedelic Ensemble, or Lifesigns on the list. Good to see K2 made the list.

I own about a quarter of the 120 but have heard almost all.
While I value and respect those who cherish and seek to emulate (and preserve) the sounds and styles of the past (like Neo and Retro artists), I get excited for the new edges forward-thinking boundary pushers come up with--these are the minds and spirits I wish to commend and celebrate more.

I know, I've been mocked for enjoying Marillion and a few other neo-prog bands a few times. Also for loving Camel and progressive metal, but that's another story.

Interesting to see how few albums from the 2010s or 2020s made the list. Wonder what number of ratings/reviews/citings an album has to receive in order to qualify for a list.

The fact that Sylvan's Home and One to Zero made the list but not Posthumous Silence or Force of Gravity boggles my mind more than a little.

Love seeing MilliontownSeven, and Moonshine, up there in the top 20.

Weird that I still can't hear/see the Neo Prog in any of Arena's stuff.

And no Glass Hammer, Shamall, The Watch, The Flower Kings, Silhouette, Edison's Children, Darwin's Radio, Believe, Willowglass, Cirrus Bay, Unitopia, Nine Stones Close, or Spock's Beard!

And not enough Mystery!

I own five:

55. Pablo El Entarrador - Pablo El Entarrador (Symphonic)

56. Logos - Sadako e le mille gru di carta (RPI)

69. Osiris - Osiris

83. Carptree - Man Made Machine

90. Lazuli - Le fantastique envol di Dieter Bohm (Eclectic)

Only two of those are considered Neo Prog in PA, so I had a look at an equivalent chart (I assume) here. From the PA top 120 Neo Prog albums, I own only four, but three are from one artist:

50. Chris - Days of Summer Gone

72. t - Solipsystemology

80. t - Psychoanorexia

89. t - Anti-Matter Poetry

96 of the 120 but please tell the judges that I have a massive collection (I started in 1969) so it's all a question of proportions LOL. BTW, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Neo-Prog !
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

My Neo Prog Top 10

1. Mostly Autumn
2. Magenta
3. Edison's Children
4. Like Wendy
5. Differences
6. Osiris
7. Pallas
8. Solstice
9. Pendragon
10. Arena

Where's Marillion?  They're at #12 in my list, just below Abel Ganz, even though Fugazi & Misplaced Childhood are the only two Neo Prog albums I have on CD. Wacko

Bizarrely, Marillion's highly-acclaimed Brave & Marbles albums didn't even make it into the RYM Top 120. Ouch

Marillion and Pallas aside, as far as we were concerned in 1985, neo-prog was best represented on that 'Fire and Harmony' compilation album which caught the spirit of the age.  And then it was suddenly over following 'The Wake'...

You both have more Neo Prog albums than I've actually listened to in the Top 120 list, so I have a lot of catching up to do. Embarrassed
