I've only listened to Crisis, What Crisis?
once (about 3 weeks ago) and found it a fantastic album, so I'd would
probably want to include a track or two from it, but need to listen a
couple more times... that said, here's what I have. 1 Rudy 2 Crime Of The Century 3 School 4 Fool's Overture 5 The Logical Song 6 Asylum 7 Even In The Quietest Moments 8 Child of Vision 9 Breakfast In America 10 From Now On and Bloody Well Right and Take the Long Way Home are just under the radar. That's 'Give A Little Bit'............it's hell to get old. I'm not a fan either....always thought of them as 'prog lite'.

I would heartily recommend you both take a fresh listen to Crisis what Crisis.. that album has grown on me like a lesion man.. and has some musical moments.. especially the first side that just raises the hair on the my Popeye like forearms... some amazing f**king music on that album and that from one who has always considered Breakfast as their masterpiece.. oh it was.. but Crisis was the next best thing they did.

"Prog-lite" is a fair characterization. And many (myself included) are no big fan of much of their sentimental-ish pop material (like "Give A Little Bit" or "Hide in Your Shell") And yet... Some of their proggier stuff (including most of "Crime of the Century") is just masterful! They get into musical/emotional subtleties that no other band (that I know of) does. But, in the end, its still a matter of personal taste.

Got an original vinyl of Crisis...I'll knock the dust off and spin it before bedtime. My actual 'favorite' by them is Even In The Quietest Moments...Fools Overture is their best track.. period...imo qualifies as prog(even has some Floydian overtones). Btw..there is an interesting track called 'Try Again' on the very first one (the 1st lp has early Genesis moods)...when they had Palmer (same Palmer who wrote lyrics for KC and has worked with Wetton) and Millar. Many years ago that's the one I played the most since it came out in '70. I have always thought Crime was overrated..... Edited by dr wu23 - October 16 2020 at 10:44 |

Yikes, this is going to be very difficult (even in a top 20, some faves would get left out) No order of preference (top 11) Beggar Nothing To Show Try Again School Asylum Rudy Crime Quietest Moments Fools Overture Ni In-Between Brother Where You Bound Bubbling under (no pref again) Cannonball Better Days Child Of Vision Babaji Lover Boy From Now On Soapbox Another Man's Bloody Well Right Hide In Your Shell Long Road Bird of Prey Shadow Song
Oddly
enough Crisis never really resonnated with me (or maybe not as much as
it should have)... Too many twee or over-precious moments. In any case, I
don't view it as a must-have (and I don't, though a lot of it is in my CDr compilation), like their debut, Crime, Moments & Brother. Edited by Sean Trane - October 16 2020 at 05:00 |

^Crisis was my gateway album to the Tramp and always my "private crush"--and I was sorely disappointed when they played absolutely zero songs from it on their Breakfast in America tour.
And "Try Again" almost made my list. I like those first two albums a lot! But, I have to admit, Crime is just a pure masterpiece--seemless start to finish--and what a start, what a finish!

I don't know about a Supertramp Top 10, but I know that "Bl**dy Well Right" is one of the most irritating songs I've ever heard, from anyone.
I like the Supertramp song that begins, "Take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I've got" or something like that, which I believe is on the Breakfast in America album. I couldn't possibly come up with a Top 10 list though, not unless I choose all of the songs from Breakfast in America, which happens to be the only Supertramp album I've listened to, apart from their Greatest Hits album. I will listen to all of Supertramp's albums eventually though.
