TOP 20 Genesis Songs - #11
If you're a newcomer - in each thread we're voting for the greatest GENESIS songs (following the method agreed upon here.) Every participant names three songs in order of preference: First song = 4.5 points Second song = 3 points Third song = 2 points After a couple of days I add up your "points" and announce the winning song for a current spot. Then we move on and vote for the next spot. All points are reset. Our goal is to come up with 20 songs so it might take some time. TOP 10 is a done deal so let's move to rarely tested waters on this site - the realm of Slippermen, Squonks and other fabled creatures of Epping Forest (sorry Paul for aping your part!) Voting is closed. #12 thread will be opened soon No. 11 song is The Fountain of Salmacis 01. The Fountain of Salmacis. 18.0 pts 02. Blood on the Rooftops. 15.5 pts 03. One for the Vine. 13.5 pts 04. In the Cage. 12.0 pts 05. Anyway. 11.5 pts Edited by thief - August 17 2020 at 01:51 |

Great top 10, by the way..... although don't know how Eleventh Earl of Mar got in there so high! Too many cheesy references to 'Daddy' for my liking for top 10 (top 20 maybe) - must have missed the voting that week (that's democracy for you!)

Great meal, thank you for that!!
I dunno either! You can check the #5 thread by clicking the link on The List... I believe we had like 10-12 votes then so 11th Earl and Jacobites slipped through. Still surprised to see it this high though, I say we need some Lamb and ATOTT in TOP20

Agree also. Don't know how it made No.5. Others are fantastic though.

The reference is necessary for the historical context.
John Erskine (The Sixth or Eleventh Earl of Mar, because Earldom titles were usually awarded more than once and there's not a perfect record), had inherited the position from his father Charles Erskine Earl of Mar, despíte being known as Bobbing John for his loyalty to whoever was in the power and for being unable to chew gum and walk simultaneously. His daddy told him he was born for the glory of his family and his king, but the guy was a complete inept. So, the reference to his daddy is very relevant.
