Don’t get me wrong, Sam. I don’t literally dislike `Moving Pictures’ (nor any of their albums). I like tracks like the instrumental `YYZ’, and I can really hear the influence on modern bands like Coheed and Cambria on parts of `Limelight’, etc. No regrets buying it in the least.
Tonight’s choices, a nice mix of vintage and modern: Fuchsia – s/t Beggar’s Opera – Waters of Change Beggar’s Opera – Pathfinder Goblin - Volo Gentle Giant – Free Hand Rush – Moving Pictures Kansas – Leftoverture Robert Schroeder – Drifin’ Mosaico – Vola Mystery – Delusion Rain Enchant – The Great Divide The Flower Kings – Space Revolver Alpha Wave Movement – Earthen Erik Wollo and Byron Metcalf - Earth Luminous Giron – Stones Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - May 09 2016 at 07:56 |

^ Good to know. YYZ was actually the first track I heard from them, I remember it was the only track on Guitar Hero where the bass was more difficult than the guitar I think it's true with real instruments too
How's that Goblin album? I love the bass on Free Hand

Sam, I only resorted to `Free Hand' (which I think is a pretty good album anyway) because even though I ripped my `Interview' CD to my ITunes, I forgot to actually transfer it onto my Ipod, so as I went to play it, it was like `Oh, what the fu...'
Ha, are you not aware of the notorious `Volo'?! An 80's pop album that has almost nothing to do with any of the usual Goblin sounds! Apparently there was just enough demand for it from the diehards to warrant Cinevox re-releasing it on CD, but it's pretty much the last Goblin you'd want! To be fair it's a fine 80's pop album, but with the exception of the last track, it's best to approach with extreme caution! But hey, it did just provide me with an opportunity to post a lower-rated review for a change! |

Yeah, that's frustrating I never listened to Interview, I went with the popular opinion that GG ended with Free Hand
I just read your review, it doesn't seem so scary. I guess I'm probably not shocked by that: I grew up with Claudio Simonetti's Italo Disco project Kasso, which is some of the most decent music of that genre my father was mad about... and my brother followed his footsteps with Italian Techno. You see, being crazy for Italian music is genetic

`Interview' is great, pretty much just as good as the ones before it! You can't really go wrong with ANY of those first several GG albums. It's the very poppy `Giant for a Day' that most people despise, but to be honest I didn't find it as unlistenable as some people make it out to be (must remember to give it a new spin). It's pop, for sure, but not bad pop for what it is. As for Goblin's `Volo', listen to these tracks for instance and you'll instantly hear my it's so disliked - NOTHING like typical Goblin! But again, nicely played 80's pop. |
