Thanks for the link. I'll get around to reading its backlog, I'm something of a junkie for in-depth music analysis perhaps because I've got a very "formalist" way of approaching art in general.

Had some interesting exchanges with the poster who changed sex to become Lindsay Lohan.

Whatever happened to Tony R from Bolton?

Yes, he/she used to be called Maidenrulez initially.

He retired from his admin position and now he hardly ever comes here.

BTW, I also miss my fellow compatriots. There used to be many more Poles here in those early days, namely Visitor13 (initially known as Manunkind), Ed_The_Dead, Publius, Pablo_P, Wolf Spider, etc.

And does anybody remember Ansen/The Miracle? Whatever happened to this kid (well, now not a kid anymore I suppose)?

Seems like many young members kind of grew out of PA.

As far as telling Raff Hi? Do it yourself, get your ass up the road to Chapel Hill next weekend for Progday!

We are not hard to find, just look for the beautiful woman mixing and hobnobbing with everyone and the creepy  weaselly looking guy sitting under the pavilion drinking mass quantities of beer, reading a book and eyeing little girls with bad intent. Snot running down his nose greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.

I'll see you & Raff at the weekend. Can't wait.

Counting the days Ian!!!  I've had a countdown going on my FB page for the last month hahaha

It is a highlight of the year for us to see old friends and meet new ones.

speaking old faces

while many, unfortunately not all, but most of my friends here followed me over to FB one I really miss is the uniqueness that was Mandy.

Mandrakeroot.

One of the great hightlights of the PA's era was that meeting of 4/5ths of the Italian prog team at the Le Orme concert in Padova.  What a special evening that was. Mandy was a trip, Andrea C the gentleman and scholar and flat out liar he was to tell Aldo I travelled all the way from the US just to see him hahahah.

Does Mandy still post here, or write his always interesting reviews hahah

I was just about to mention him, Karney.
I remember him vividly.
Too bad he had a serious temper.
He was one of the most colorful people around.
BTW it's a bit of a pity that a lot of people don't post here anymore, like Threefates, Trouserpress, Snow Dog, the Bald Angels, Erik Neuteboom... Or they pop up every once in a while, like Vompatti...
Well, that's just as it is, but I remember the good old days. Okay, these days are good too, but it's a different kind of good. Smile

Yeah, I remember them all. Snow Dog still posts does he not?

I met Trouserpress at the first Prog Archives curry night in London. Very nice chap. Along with Sean Trane, Chopper, Sigod, Chris Syzergy, Richard H and Jim Garten (?) Memory is hazy...
That was a great night. Not sure if Jim was there or not, I'll have to check the photos. Wasn't Goose there as well?

I still remember when I told my wife I was going for a beer with some guys from a prog rock site that I'd never met and she said one of them could be an axe murderer! Don't think any of us were.

I miss Ian (Snow Dog) - it was his posts that got me to join this site in the first place. I must try and contact him on FB.

I had a similar experience myself trying to get through it in one piece.

It's amazing to see the original PA site, and see how few bands were listed. No place then for Can, Hawkwind, or even Jethro Tull!

It seems like the people who stopped posting overwhelmingly were among the younger members on the forum, which I find pretty interesting since usually it's the opposite way around. That's probably a main reason that the overall music discussion climate is nowhere as "fanboyish", for lack of a better word, as it was back then.

I don't believe age has a whole lot to do with it. Internet forums are just accelerated versions of the rest of our lives. People come and go. It just happens. And really, I think a lot of us on the not so young side find little value in the constant rehashing of "punk killed prog" and "over/under rated" band threads.

Same thing with us on the younger side. I've never ever heard the entire "punk vs. prog" thing come up in real life at all from anyone I discuss music with, no matter their preferences. Taking down sacred cows I at this point consider a futile effort. Instead I just start threads trying to promote younger and less famous artists I think deserve a larger audience, but they're less underrated than underexposed so...

Been here since '05. Can't say much has changed other than 30 new sub genre's being added, an individual band or artist's page top albums section being removed, and some old members disappearing and new one appearing. Oh and Yes vs Genesis polls.

mp3 downloading on this site is a big reason I got into a lot of bands, and why I originally stuck around.

This thread proves that even though many members from the 04/05/06 days still lurk, and just don't sign in.
