I'm not familiar with grindcore except A.C., one of my faves ... but very curious what kind of sound they can launch. |

A fine, fruitful creation by a twisted Japanese saxophonist / flutist who plays instruments like talking.
Ryoko Ono
Undine (2012) - Ryoko ONO, her first solo creation From the very beginning "genie-Sylph", we can hear one of the most challenging ambience of her. Ryoko's saxophone play might be influenced by a Zeuhl saxophone specialist Yochk'o Seffer, who can play saxophone like "talking, whispering, romping". Her emotional, a bit sensual (oh ... lol) dizzy, lazy sax sounds can be heard as Elf's (or Ryoko's) whispering definitely. As for Zeuhl, a short but funky chirps are shot via "Birds" along with irregular, confusing words, that can be perfectly harmonized with together. This superb, mystic song reminds us something leaning toward Red Balune or Koenjihyakkei. In "Esoteric" we're able to touch some complex saxophone anchorites with simple and tidy percussive grooves. Or crazily metronomic saxophone duet can be felt in "Morphing" ... as if two Dragons tangle together and fly up with blue teardrops. Terribly quaking palpitation, followed by dreadful calmness, can be seen in "Hologram", as the title says. And another fantastic experiment (composed by Steve Reich) "Piano Phase" Ryoko has completely digested and reconstructed as a splendid sax minimalism. Yes, we can enjoy various appearances and logics via her phantasmagoric play. And as for "Tarkus", guess everyone says this album is worth getting for only listening to this speedy stuff (nah I do think other tracks be fine too). Enjoy fully with laughing and rolling. In collaboration with Tatsuya YOSHIDA's killa drumming, Ryoko's interpretation upon "Tarkus" is that her avantgarde dancing saxophone dwarves stir such a masterpiece up into disorder with plenty of mischief and unique explosive expression, although her production should definitely be faithful to the basis of the original tune. Amazing for us that her (and Tatsuya's) aggressive sound machinegun cannot get blurred at all, a flood of massive attacks of sound / noise come via their inner space though. Knocked away by their violently quick shots, we can be drenched in masochistic comfort. Ryorchestra ... another project of Ryoko Caution ... this album is her first music bomb. Danger really, but recommended for every avantgarde-jazz and Zeuhl fan. Woohoo. Ryoko's lovely signature, with a pretty cat (like her). I'm very happy! Thank you for reading this blog. ٩(̾●̮̮̃̾•̃̾)۶ |

This is amazing :o
"Beatnyx" sounds like a way more elaborate version of Jizue enhanced with beautiful flute. The album cover is very classy also. |

YUUKAI KENCHIKU have come back again, with such a kaleidoscopic masterpiece EP.
Yuukai Kenchiku - Takenobu "Hassan" Takahashi, Shintaro Kanda, Nami Adachi, Kei Akita, and Hidehito Tamba (left to right). This EP "TRINOCTIVM" has been recorded in April 2012 by usual players of YUUKAI KENCHIKU, and released on their stage in Osaka upon May 20. All of the three tracks in this EP are what we are familiar with via their gigs, and what we can feel the most innovative of all their stuffs. Let me show an evidence that they have three different appearances from other and that swiftly they change the way of expression step by step. You know the word "polyrhythm" used in progressive rock scene usually, but we can call their creations "polymelodic" with steady rhythms and grooves, especially constructed by Nami's ubiquitous flute explosions. As mentioned maybe, Nami's flute sounds, cultivated and fostered in France, have not only fragile sensitivity but also strong assertion (both of which almost all of French possess I guess). We can fully hear her great appearance, based upon four strong, strict instruments and their sounds in their newest work again. TRINOCTIVM (2012) - YUUKAI KENCHIKU "Beatnyx" is one of my favourite songs of them ... gets started with Hassan's simple but risky keyboard green lake, whilst the rhythm section shoots definitely twisted diagonal matrix against keyboard sounds. Finally quick steps of Nami's aggressive flute and Hidehito's guitar rigidity upon them and "instability" mentioned above can be completed, as a dramatic stability. Wondering always why we can feel such a mixed feeling, but cannot ignore this mysterious phenomenon ... called innovation methinks. On the other hand, in the second place "Sayo-shigure", we cannot help feeling wet but cool with plaintive and repetitive keyboard raindrops, drenched drum ground, deeply grey bass mud, glassy guitar air, and umbrellas of flute. Not so complex but we can get relaxed with such a crystalized minute (only 4 minutes). The scene has altered dramatically ... "Meiosis" is their musical fission or division ... have not heard such a kaleidoscopic transformation in a song. Each instrument and player should understand his / her position, and launch tones / toks without any confusion nor hesitation. Almost gem treasure with various colours and glitters given off by all instruments and ... their perfectly harmonized breath itself. Yes they are only one, merged with each other, as their project name says (The Melting Architecture) ... it's a quite united one, let me say. Their bandcamp is here ... please check it out! Thank you for reading this blog. ٩(̾●̮̮̃̾•̃̾)۶ |

I'm listening to Machine and the Synergetic Nuts on Youtube, and I'm loving it. They kind of sound like Return to Forever with the ferocity of One Shot. Very groovy too

Love the Forbidden Ritual by PRIMITIVE COMMUNITY. Just come back from Tokyo and that tune sounds to my ears like a mix of the serenity of Senso-ji's Temple and the madness of Shibuya.

Another Japanese Jazz Rock masterpiece!
Leap Second Neutral Machine And The Synergetic Nuts Jazz Rock/Fusion
Review by
DamoXt7942
Shouts in our mind that we do hope to get stability or something even in an unstable condition ...
cannot avoid feeling such a phenomenon by four talented artists via this album "Leap Second Neutral".
Complex and powerful drumming by Toshiaki, deep and heavy bass moonquake by Hiroyuki, and sharp-edged keyboard kicking by Noriya, might tell their "strict inconstancy" terrifically filled with sensation of speed. As if we would stand upon a fragile plate ice, we should always have gotten scared of their uptempo instability, but it's not true actually. Listen to the first track "M-B" and you can feel that these four superb "sound magicians" could get quite stabilized and harmonized like a clear, square crystal upon such a complex poly-rhythm structure. Their powerful loudness cannot be forgotten always, while delightful, funky, fancy grooves in "Neutral" go through our brain massively. On the other hand, here is another fluctuation like "Stum" (as the title ... immature wine ... says) with risky state of sounds downstream eternally. The sound structure of "Solid Box" should be solid indeed but Mahi-mahi's flexible saxophone can make this track more fluid and more liquid than we expected. Even into short tracks like "Monaco" their intensive complexity and eccentricity should be squeezed fully. We can enjoy their sounds of dizzying speed and various appearances in their principal theme "strict inconstancy", like long-matured whisky or wine. Splendid theatre. |
