In too few elements of our lives is sheer nastiness a selling point; fortunately, this is not the case when it comes to bass tone. In this (hopefully) weekly blog, I will be giving you the lowdown on some progressive albums that feature dirty, ugly, bass sounds that are frankly just revolting. I hope you can appreciate them on the same level as I do.
If you are familiar with an album fitting the above criteria - preferably relatively obscure - and you'd like to bring it to my attention, send me a PM and it might end up here in a couple weeks (especially if you play on it). For Episode 2, click here Likewise, Episode 3 lol it's Episode 4 Looking for Episode 5? Holy Moly Episode 6! Call the cops, it's Episode 7 and Episode 8 Yes, Episode 9 Episode 10, late as usual EPISODE 1: Led Bib's Sensible Shoes ![]() A particularly wild brand of noisy avant-jazz, Led Bib's album Sensible Shoes features wailing saxophone, noodly electric piano, and pounding drums punctuated by upright bass that is at times so gain-laden that it is indistinguishable from flatulence. Truly a thing of beauty. Until next week, keep FLUHGHF JGKULH BRUP Edited by Triceratopsoil - March 30 2014 at 13:40 |

".... feature dirty, ugly, bass sounds that are frankly just revolting". Sounds like a description of Chris Squires entire carrier.
![]() I will be keeping an eye on this, Led Bib was an interesting start. |

It's nice to see the development of bass sounds in the prog rock genre. Bands who took a step forward and were looking for harder edged sound like Yes, King crimson and rush just to name a few to Primus and now Led Bib is a fine example.

Hi,
This is going to be a fun blog ... and yeah ... I'm gonna listen to that ... but honestly ... I really think that most metal bass stuff is so boring, ugly and so childish as to be as bad as those diapers we remember so well at times! But we always had a good laugh learning to play the ABC's didn't we?
Now let me get Robin Williams to do some screaming and swearing for us! Edited by moshkito - April 04 2012 at 13:04 |

As a bassist, I more than approve! (the fact that I'm a bassist, apparently gives the approval some amazing transcendental feeling)
Keep the stuff coming.

Hi, Led Bib has nothing to do with metal, and as that's the only band I've mentioned so far I'm not sure what you're talking about. Also, some of the most impressive music (on many levels) I've heard could be described as metal, so you're either listening to the wrong things, or just need to open your mind more.
This blog is about good bad bass tones though ![]() |
