After the joke let's speak the truth here , Brain Salad Surgery was an album released by Emerson Lake and Palmer , Camel........................... they just couldn't even imagine to pull that stuff off.LOL

Both are favourites of mine and often revered as love-hate albums because of the bombast. Both records have heyboard virtuosos on them... Brain Salad Surgery is my favourite album of all time but Ys may be the most agressive and haunting symphonic prog album ever recorded. So it's really a tough choice , in my opinion it's a draw.

PD: For those that don't know this italian masterpiece , picture how good it must be that me- an ELP fanboy does not vote for the best record by his favourite band.

Angry  mentioning that album is  just like breaking wind in the presence of the Mona Lisa

YS...  BSS smokes anything Camel ever tried... but YS smokes 99% of all prog albums.

Ys's frantic keyboards, dominant and dramatic vocals and the slightly "avant-ish" sound make this album a one of a kind listening experience.
I once made the mistake of listening to it while I was pissed off at something... big mistake... the vocals drove me more mad... and the music's erratic nature made me want to tear something apart... LOL
But the music is brilliant!!! just I will make sure to always listen to it when I'm calm.

I've tried YS several times but I just can't digest it yet. Those spins have taken place mostly at work doing other stuff at the same time, so maybe it's just the lack of concentration.

BSS also took some time, but now I love parts of it, like other parts and just can't bring myself to much enjoy some.

Will not vote since I don't know YS that well.

Ys is undoubtedly great but I gotta go with Surgery, completely original and nothing like it before or since, whereas Ys greatness is more in a prog tradition

No, they wouldn't ever want to try to match ELP's level of bombast. Camel made sensitive, subtle music - far beyond anything ELP could ever do in that respect. But the level of musicianship of Camel is at least as good as ELP - Latimer is as fine a guitarist as Emerson ever was a keyboard player,
