regarding Le Orme... It is not only my view but ... Like others I see more influences from Quatermass! Regarding Biglietto Per L'Inferno... 'Live 1974' Bad sound for a great album. Should however be re-evaluated 'Il Tempo Della Semina'!
'Io Come Io' Well... Too similar to 'La Bibbia'... I have heard 1 single time... And that I remember.

This guy (Warholizer [Fabio Napodano]) produces this short but great review:
I listen to this album from time to time and I appreciate it a lot; I think that fans of Djam Karet would feel at home while listening to it. The only song I really *MUST* skip is Bahnhofstrasse, because of the extremely annoying cello synth; this is also the most repetitive and less interesting song in the set.
Other than this, the album flows good as a serie of psychedelic-oriented moments, with a great intro and a good number of changes, intriguing (rather complex but still easily enjoyable) tempo signatures, and good soloes. Highly recommended for Djam Karet fans, recommended for 70's Tangerine Dream, Hidria Spacefolk and Ozric Tentacles fans, probably not for classic-prog likers. |

My last review is a difficult review... For the correct evalutation of the album!
Basically a great POP album, 'FS' is, in truth, a great bad album in great album field! What?!? I wrote right?!? Yes!
Probably sound bad the fact that with this suicidal mix only justice is for drums. Remain in my mind the great New Trolls songs 'Il Treno (Tigre- E 633- 1979)' and 'Luomo In Blu', this last great Blues Rock. But for the other? It is difficult to understand with this mix of sounds which song save. 'Gilda 1929' is not bad. Good, also if only because in POP field is good, 'Il Serpente'. Also good is 'Strano Vagabondo', another insipid POP song but... With good guitars and Bee Gees chorus with great music. But I can not understand the true value of 'FS' because the mix does not permit this. Clearly be 'FS' rather than an honest album. And particularly New Trolls. Not Prog, clear. But good. What is clear to me is that 'FS' is a concept album about memories of a railroader. And this is good. Today 'FS' as it sounds? In many points is aged bad. In other points still sounds good. But, sorry me, but I can not evaluate this album. And if I do check 3 stars, just because it sounds well, in general. |

The first true italian Prog album is reviewed by me! and this is the review!:
'The Trip: Musica Impresionistica' is a great album. But aged extremely... In a middle ground between good and evil that I define not know enough. The trips with the moniker Trips is a band with itchie Blackmore that is, after his departure, moved to Italy. The line-up in this 1970's debut is: Billy Gray (electric guitar, voice), Arvid 'Wegg' Andersen (bass, vocal), Pino Sinnone (drums) and Joe Vescovi (organ, vocal). Of course 'The Trip: Musica Impressionistica' is the first and first truth 100% RPI album!
The music is great. With great insertion of Deep Purple intro in 'Prologo' the true RPI is born!!! This intro is extreme hard but melodic ie neo classic. Joe Vescovi wrote a great mix between England & Italy in music with great rock parts and great organ. 'Incubi' (title in Italian language... lyrics in English language) is in the New trolls more hard style. But in this case the lyrics are recited in chorus and almost a cappella. The music is still Beat, in verses. In general is extreme psychedelic the organ. Good the insertion of Prog parts, also if too close to Bach and Wagner. The same type of discusson is good also for 'Visioni Dell'Aldilā'. In this case 'Visioni Dell'Aldilā' is more Prog and I think that this is a great Goblin track with English lyrics. Black Gothic, in truth is the correct sub style of 'Visioni Dell'Aldilā'. This song contains excellent scores organ, bass guitar and band choir: there is a mini suite! Aged better than 'Incubi' is a great potential Prog evergreen. And if we speak of 'XXth Century Classic Music' when we speak of Prog... this song is Classic Music: This sentence is correct! Ahhh... Vescovi is a great king of organ but Gray is a great king of guitar see guitar solo). Great also the final vocal chorus (and in general all final) in typical Vanilla Fudge's style (because Vanilla Fudge was a cult band in those years in Italy!). More Crimsonian is the intro (20 seconds) of 'Riflessioni', another songs with the already cited ingredients (we thought it was different this song?). In truth this song is more Californian in the sound but with an insertion of interesting Gospel chorus. The only song sung in Italian is the final 'Una Pietra Colorata' that in truth is an Hard Rock with Beat style rhythm and construction. Also in this case... great organ! Ahhh... great voice of Bill Gray Only in the final suggests that he is English! The better songs are, in conclusion: 'Prologo', 'Visioni Dell'Aldilā' and Una pietra Colorata. In my view the music here is an album that forces me to go against. This is because 'The Trip: Musica Impressionistica' is the truth start of RPI and because, in truth, 'The Trip: Musica Impressionistica' is a good album. I speak of hystorical merit. But also the music is good, considering that 'The Trip: Musica Impressionistica' is a sort of great 'Opera Prima' of RPI. The interaction between two musical worlds as diverse as England and Italy is exceeded by abig understanding: demonstration is the fact that 3 songs out of 5 are written by Vescovi and Gray. And these two ways of understanding the Rock is also confirmed by the two songs written by the Italian components of the band: 'Prologo' is a typica English Rock song, 'Una pietra Colorata' is a typical Italian Beat song already Prog! The more influence of this 'The Trip: Musica Impressionistica' there are King Crimson, The Nice and Vanilla Fudge. King Crimson for the non conventional writing style, that transform songs like 'Visioni Dell'Aldilā' and 'Riflessioni' in mini suites, The Nice for the use of Keyboards and Vanilla Fudge (cult band in those years in Italy) for the use of vocal chorus and arrengements. But, this is extreme important, 'The Trip: Musica impressionistica' is also a good personal album. In this sense in Italy is one of the firsts album (if not the first!) that speak a Prog music verb. In conclusion: 'The Trip: Musica Impressionistica' is a fundamental album for Italiam music. Not a masterpiece. But in the economy of Italian music is a fundamental album because 'The Trip: Musica Impressionistica' is the first true Prog album. Sure for this hystorical motive 'The trip: Musica Impressionistica' is higly recommended. Edited by Mandrakeroot - October 03 2008 at 05:53 |

^ looks like an important record Mandy, good review
..well on further listens, the Deus ex Machina debut is not as impressive to me, a little too much cheez and Piras's screaming is intolerable at points.. things aren't looking up for an overall positive review, we'll see |

My last 2 Italian reviews:
Why I bought and now write a review about this compilation? Only because Dik Dik and I GiGanti pleases me! Yes, only for this motive!
DIK DIK section: All the songs are in an other sampler by SAAR. In truth extreme interesting, these songs are aged extremely good. If you love Soft Prog probably these 6 songs are for you. 'Senza Luce' is the Italian version of 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale' but I think that 'Il Vento' be more Prog. For the rest great keyboards carpet but this live version of 'Sognando La California' only with acoustic guitars are good also for a Folk Prog lover. I GiGanti: This section is totally Beat. But... with great voices. If is not good, because aged extremely bad, 'Lasciati Baciare Con Il Letkiss', 'Tema', 'Proposta' and 'La Bomba Atomica' are good for voices. also 'Una Ragazza In Due' and 'Da Bambino' are good. In general, for lyrics themes, 'Tema', 'Proposta' and 'La Bomba Atomica' are the songs more closer to Terra In Bocca'. In conclusion this 'Dik Dik- I GiGanti: Due gruppi Un'Epoca' is only another Dik Dik- I GiGanti sampler. It is difficult to me to make a correct review for this album for these factors: - the cover: aaaarrrggghhh... Without good taste! -for the lyrics: Well... Very stupid! - for the music: Ok, I love Dik Dik music but 'Suite Per Una Donna Assolutamente Relativa' is not a prog album... Ie... 'Suite...' is a Prog album... A Soft Prog album.
In a correct view 'Suite...' sound in my head as 100% Dik Dik album. curiously 'Suite ...' plays in my head much Dik Dik of many of their other recordings. But the combination of the various factors that I've vritten above forced me not to have pity for this album. The music is good, not because written by the voice and guitarist Mario todaro but because with good arrengements and because written good. In other words 'Suite...' is written in a good way, certainly above average. But for a correct vision, I repeat, this is only Soft Prog music with symphonic threatment. This is due to the musical preparation of Dik Dik. Ie, in other words, promoting 'Suite...' Prog album as it was half wrong. Curiously 'Suite...' has grown in a manner not easy to understand: The music is aged in great manner: with the arrival of Neo Prog the music of 'Suite...' was much appreciated, even if nobody had the courage to do it noted. The lyrics are aged too bad... Especially because not already good at that album because they had not thickness. The cover... Bleah! In conclusion this is what 'Suite ...' I sent. And it goes without considering whether a total that is not a masterpiece. But all mixed... Music, lyrics, cover... They produce a good album. |
