Well, since prog uses a lot of unusual time signatures, and there are a lot of musically-literate people here, I thought I'd take a poll to see what everyone's favorite time signature is, at least off of this list.

Obviously, I can't include every single one, but if there's one or two that's popular but not on the list, I'll add it.

For me, it's 13/8.

-Topographic

Edit: MikeEnRegalia, good point below.  Elektrik by King Crimson is partially in 13/8.  10/8 would be a close second, due to Tarkus and Larks' Tongues Part 2.

call me mad but I love three beats to the bar in rock, I picked 3/4 for simplicity's sake. a lot of the time I hear a band doing something in 7/8 that would sound better in a more sane signature or meter anyway ;P

Forgot about Living in the Past, or the Great Solsbury Moths conspiracy, or the fact that I can link Tull to anything?

I vote for 7/4, although I don't really have a favorite signature ... it's good if it makes sense in the context of the song.

Examples for 7/4 songs that I love:

- Pink Floyd - Money
- Steve Vai - Die to Live

Nothin' wrong with a good ol' 4/4.

7/8 is pretty great too.

Who needs 'em? Tongue
Just drone on and make some tones and feedback.  That's the best kind of music!

Sometimes I love a tight 7/8 though.  See NIN's 'March of the Pigs' for a great example.

7/4, totally. It swings and it's subtle enough that you're often not sure what's going one.

Love to Love You by Caravan is a good example.

I find seven to be the most natural besides the obvious 3 or 4, but my favorite really weird ones are 13 (like the Faust song known as Psalter (on 71 minutes), Lauft.....(on the original Faust IV), and Giggy Smile (on crappy Faust IV remasters)), and 19 (used by Henry Cow in the verse of Beautiful As The Moon; Terrible as an army with banners).

Why should it matter? value more the substance than the form. There can be amazing 4/4 music as there is horrible 11/4 music.

Of course 4/4... It may be the vulgar, common time signature, but some of the greatest music in the world has been on that signature. I'm not particularly fon of 3/4 but less so of regular blues time.. what's that, 6/8? I have problem with triple times when they are slow...
