What a wonderful and compelling album!!! Vittorio De Scalzi's his own musical concept! Released in 1973.

Bonus track on CD: Una notte sul monte calvo inspired by Mussorgsky...!

The first song 'La Nuova Predica di Padre O'Bien', is mindblowing prog perfection indeed. A song of epic proportions but under seven minutes long! I think the rest of the album is quite good, but a bit of a let down after the intense opening track.

But I much prefer Vittorio De Scalzi's NTAS, to all the New Trolls albums I've heard.

I take it that you quite like Le Orme's debut 'Collage'. I think it's a great, moving and emotional album. My girlfriend also likes it, and that is a bonus as well.

Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me

After the break up of NEW TROLLS in 1972, Vittorio De Scalzi formed NEW TROLLS ATOMIC SYSTEM. Their self-titled debut album is one of the best examples of Italian prog. "Tempi Dispari", released in 1974, is also very good, entirely jazz oriented.

I consider Collage as the concrete starting point for italian prog!Hug

I've listened to the album some more lately. Its gone from good to really good. Loving more and more the added female vocalist in 'Ho Visto Poi' and the ABBAlike (love them) keyboards in 'Quando L'Erba...'. The bonus is great fun.

Six great songs out of seven is not bad. One of them a real classic. I find the naive, hippeish song 'Butterfly' a bit embarrassing. Hope their italian lyrics are better than the english.

I agree with you on that song "Butterfly". Absolutely not at the level of the other tracks.

I assure you the italian lyrics of the other tracks are very poetic!
