I have to ask this question ............... Why is 'Mirage' sooo highly rated ?? I do enjoy it, scrapes in for the 4th star for me, but any Body Love or Moondawn or Timewind whips it in my books. Picture Music is my absolute FAVOURITE from Klaus. Over the last 20-odd years...............

^ Stronger than Moondawn for me and probably Timewind too as a whole...not sure why, very special atmosphère on this one. Think i've rated it 4 stars here but will surely upgrade to 5.
Tom, I love all - Body Love, Moondawn, Irrlicht, Cyborg, Mirage, and Timewind dearly, all of them differently, but, to me, Mirage has one thing that the other albums don't have and it's something that I feel comes straight from Klaus' heart. On most of his albums, Klaus is a wizard, an eccentric magician taking the listener to outer space (which I do love), but on Mirage, he is a human like you and me. It feels to me like childhood memories of winter, beautiful nostalgic memories. I don't know, maybe that comes from the fact that the album is dedicated to Klaus' brother, Hans Dieter, who had died of cancer. Again, I love all of his albums, but today I feel like "Crystal Lake."

I think it's overrated as well. Very good but not as good as Timewind/Moondawn/X. Picture Music is also my fave.

It's got this unique kind of shimmering beauty. Light and dark or cold and warm simultaneously. Of course you can say similar things about lots of music (and more of Schulze's works) but Crystal Lake is extra special to me.
Another vote for Crystal Lake. Sheer beauty...like making out with a turquoise blue iceberg.
As for why it is so highly regarded? I think it is because of it's somewhat unique sound inside Schulze's 70s oevre. Saper just described it perfectly as per my ears, but I will say that I have these vivid images of Copenhagen airport whenever I spin this thing. Utzon, most famous for his Opera house in Sydney, created something like a huge windsurfer sail that passengers walk through to get to the gates. It's a white luminous experience that oh so beautifully complements Mirage. I wish I could transfer this experience to other people.

Love all of those titles Tymon
I'd even go as far as to say that I love all of his 70s output with Blackdance and Picture Music being my particular faves
Speaking of that Blackdance:

Once again it's a battle between Moondawn and Timewind for me.
I'll give it to timewind again.

"Crystal Lake." It's a beautiful sojourn, the one Steve Roach was obviously most heavily inspired by (see his albums Now, Traveler, Structures From Silence, Empetus).
