Topic: Rd 1 Portland Bracket: Area v. Talk Talk Posted: November 30 2014 at 07:58
From the fearsome RPI conference we have one of the most original and incendiary groups of the 70's.
From Italy
AREA!!!!!
From the Crossdressing conference we have an example of how prog didn't die in the 80's to be reborn in the form of pansy Genesis clones, it simply mututated and progressed.
From England
TALK TALK!!!!!

Tough choice.....but I'm opting for the pomodoro path yet again. Talk Talk made three incredible records that I absolutely adore - AREA? 5, well 6 if we include the mesmerising live document from around the time of Caution Radiation Area and Crac!:

Another vote for the Italians. I've only heard Spirit of Eden from Talk Talk and like most Post Rock in that style, it bores me silly, though at least they're not as extreme in this department as Godspeed.

Gonna go with my heart as I had the pleasure of seeing Talk Talk live in 1986 - and great they were too! (Not particularly prog at the time but that grew and went from great to genius.

bah. It is so unlike my impulsive nature to sit on anything especially when in my heart I know what I want to do.
voting against the mighty RPI conference for the first and likely last time.
I do love Area, but I do love Talk Talk as much but they connect where it counts, in the heart, where Area is simply incapable of doing that purely by their style. Now the day I finally get fed up with the f**king bullsh*t in this country and finally decide to go Ferguson on this countries ass... AREA will be in my headphones for sure!!

Hmmm... the big angry boys of RPI with a string of greats versus a good synthpop band who then went into creative overdrive on one album that blows so many others away and helped give us post-rock...
To the underdogs. Give everyone something to Talk about.
