Can someone settle this. A friend of mine says that John McLaughlin was indeed on a Rolling Stones album from the sixties but he can`t remember which one. I have my doubts but if it`s true it would have to be prior to 1969. Also, he says there`s some lost bootleg with McLaughlin jamming with Hendrix which is quite possible as I`ve read many accounts of even McLaughlin himself commenting on this. Anybody?

Yes sir, that is true.
He played with the Stones on Metamorphosis in 1964 and he jammed with Jimi Hendrix on the "Hells" session. That's only available for listen as a bootleg, but you didn't hear it from me ![]() Edited by Zappa88 - July 19 2007 at 17:09 |

Not sure what you're referring to here. Metamorphosis was a compilation LP put out in 1975. I am not aware of a song called Metamorphosis. What LP is it on?

VB, I'm sure when I wrote the McLaughlin entry for PA, I included a website which provides a pretty full discography written by an Austrian fan.

Sorry, worded that poorly.
He played with them in 1964 on songs that would later appear on Metamorphosis.
Much better

Thanks. That settles that then. I`ll try to get a hold of them. Somehow. Never heard the two live Mahavishnu Orchestra recordings either. Just Between Nothingness & Eternity.

Greg Bendian leader of Mahavishnu Project was commissioned by Sony Records to remaster a live MO recording about 3 to 4 years ago, with the intention of (yet again) reissuing Inner Mounting Flame, with a live recording made soon after IMF 's release, hence the still to be released CD was to be a double set. Last time I ask edGreg - earlier this year - I was told one of the former members of MO wasn't particularly impressed by his own playing , (probably Jan Hammer), so the project has gone on the back burner. There is a greater chance of a DVD of a recording by members of Mahavishnu Project backing Jan Hammer, made at the 2006 Moog Awards Show, when they played music from the Jan Hammer Group's Oh Yeah! The liner notes of the long delayed CD of the Lost Trident Tapes by MO, revealed quite a number of MO live recordings are hidden away in Columbia Records archives - go on the web and you'll discover the various bootlegs recording that can be obtained..... |
