Topic: Carptree Posted: November 05 2005 at 03:25 |
Just listening to Carptree's Man Made Machine for the first time.
Interesting stuff at first listen. I think me and Carptree are going to
get friendly over the next couple of weeks. Any views on this or their
other two cd's.

I love it. I bought it 3 weeks ago and it's still growing on me. I would rate it 4 stars, so IMO it is a little bit underrated in the archives. The vocals are not for everyone though ... listen to the samples on their homepage first!
(they are in my db)

Not a bad band. Quite enjoyable listen, nothing special though. I have only Man made machine, plus one track Superhero from another album downloaded from this site time ago. Actually I bought Man made machine being impressed by their Superhero track, and I was disappointed a bit, as expected more from this band.
The thing is that there is nothing new in their music. I constantly have this impression that I heard it somewhere else before. Most of all they remind me of German bands like Apogee or Versus X, and various others.
Anyhow, I think it deserves three solid stars, if I happen to review this album here in PA.

I quite like Man Made Machine even if,as hinted in other posts,it sounds rather derivative. There is something of the spirit of Fish-era Marillion in the mix but there is enough of Carptree to make it a worthwhile purchase. The other albums are patchy though.

I dont get it why people go on about, theres nothing new or how it sounds like this or that. That is not really the point, there is a lot of music that sounds like other music. All music is interlaced in some way,its more like evolution than revolution.Just listen to the music, and enjoy it.Good music dont have to be invented,it speaks to the heart not the mind.So there you go

Although if you want to attract people to a band it is far better to compare their music with someone elses as a point of reference.I always feel uneasy when told that a band I am unfamiliar with sounds like "nothing you've ever heard before..."

I dont get it why people getting red with anger while discussing pretty enjoyable derivative music, as if they don't understand that good music don't have to be invented, as if this nice music does not speak to their hearts but rather straight to their minds instead. What a pity they can't just relax and enjoy.

Here's an old Carptree just for you Ted,I mean Mr Burns....

My Lovely Horse Running through the.. field Where are you going With your fetlocks blowing In the... wind
I want to shower you with sugar lumps And ride you over...fences I want to polish your hooves every single day And bring you to the horse... dentist
My lovely horse You're a pony no... more Running around With a man on your back Like a train in the night Like a train in the... (hang on I can get this)... night!
It's a bit derivative of a one-time Irish Eurovision entry......

Well actually I'm a fan of a series called Father Carp.I quite like My Lovely Horse even if,as hinted in other posts,it sounds rather derivative. There is something of the spirit of Dougal-era Father Ted in the mix but there is enough of Father Carp to make it a worthwhile purchase.
