Not so amazing, but still really good

"Tales from topographic oceans" was released in 1973, it was the first album not including Bill BRUFORD in the line-up and it was conceived as a double LP with just one very long song on each one of the four sides of the album.

A lot of experimentation, some very interesting moments but in general the album loses itself in the exaggeratedly long instrumental passages. There is not like we have four enormously awesome songs, but four really long songs that probably would have been much better with seven or eight minutes less than they have.

"The ancient/giants under the Sun" has some KING CRIMSON influence since HOWE played some lines in a very Fripp-y way. Alan WHITE was clearly linking himself up to the band but he had to fill very big shoes and frankly, he didn't go so good on it; for the other four members of YES, well they made a nice work in here, but frankly nothing historical or very transcendental.

SONG RATING: The revealing science of God, 5 The remembering, 4 The ancient, 4 Ritual, 4

AVERAGE: 4.25

PERCENTAGE: 85

ALBUM RATING: 4 stars
